Gentleman and a Van

Gentleman & a Van provided moving service within London. I had the following issues with them:

1) Packing was not done properly - this resulted in 20 broken items (glass & ceramics) plus damaged surface on a chest of drawers. Many of the broken items were of sentimental value. The company claimed that their staff was properly trained.

2) They sent the wrong size van - too small: as a result the van had to go back & forth - I had to go ahead of the van to pick up keys from the estate agent; as a consequence the movers left my flat after me and 'forgot' to bring one chair with them (fortunately I was able to retrieve this from the buyers of my flat - but it was an inconvenience)

3) When filing my claim I discovered that in spite of my specific request for proper replacement value insurance they self-insured. (Unfortunately I did not get this in writing.) Their settlement agent claimed that the terms and conditions would take into account wear & tear (this was not very clear, I took some legal advice suggesting it should cover replacement) and assessed typically 50% of replacement value. I did argue my case which resulted in a threatening response as follows: "In view of the above I await you confirmation that you would like me to ask our Principals to sanction a written valuation and that you are happy to run the risk that the settlement Proposal will be reduced. Alternatively please sign and return the Discharge Form to enable us to proceed with your Claim."

I considered taking Gentleman & a Van to small claims court, but in the end I just did not want to spend more time and effort on this.

I cannot recommend this company more highly. They were absolutely fantastic from start to finnish. They are by far and away the best and most professional removal company I have ever dealt with and I have moved many times in London.

I met with Mark, one of the companies Directors who was absolutely charming. He talked me through the moving process and got the quote out to me that same day. The quote was extremely competitive, had not hidden charges and so I made the booking.

The men that turned up to do my move were indeed "gentlemen". They couldn't have been more careful and helpful and nothing was too much trouble.
I have several expensive antique pieces of furniture and valuable canvases, all of which were very carefully and professionally wrapped and nothing had so much as a scratch on it when I unpacked.

Hats off to this company! Fantastic branding, a great company name and a wondeful concept. Very impressive from the top to the bottom. Quite brilliant!

I recently used Gentleman and a Van for my move to Bristol. I cannot speak highly enough about this company. They were absolutely brilliant. I got 3 quotes and their quote came in the middle of the three. They were marginally more expensive than the cheapest but were worth every penny.
All the movers were charming and friendy (real gentlemen) and the service was faultless.
I will be moving back to Battersea in 6 months time and I will not look at anyone else. Fantastic company!

For those considering Gentleman & A Van, I can only report our experiences dealing with this company in January 2012 were VERY POSITIVE.

*The fixed price quotation for our move was very competitive;

*Mark came to our flat to assess what we would need moving and he was very professional, polite and helpful;

*The Gentleman & A Van move booklet he left behind also left us in no doubt this was a serious and professional company. It also had some useful tips in for the day of the move and other things to consider when you are moving;

*On the day of the move, Gentleman & A Van arrived on time, and their two employees didn’t stop for a break until all our stuff was packed up and ready to be shifted;

*At the other end they again unloaded everything very quickly and didn’t stop for a break. Their work ethic was spot on;

*None of our belongings were damaged or broken in transit;

IN SHORT, IF YOU ARE MOVING, I WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND YOU SERIOUSLY CONSIDER GETTING A QUOTE FROM GENTLEMAN & A VAN.

Gentleman and a Van are an outstanding removals company. The total fee charged includes VAT and insurance, all packing materials and all incidentals (parking suspensions etc) - there are no hidden extras and no admin charges. What they quote is what you get charged.

The gentleman who did the packing/moving were charming, helpful, polite and extremely careful with my belongings and with my home. They were such a pleasure to have around and so professional and courteous.

The packing was done with exceptional care and the packing materials were of a high standard.

I had a number of pieces that had to be disassembled and this was done with great care.

Gentleman and a Van also offer extremely competivite prices on storage, in fact so competitive that in addition to packing up my house I asked them to move a 30sq ft lock-up I had to their storage venue. They were more than happy to do this as part of the 'day rate' (no additional charge to drive to another venue after packing up my house) and saved me a huge amount of money as a result of moving out of that storage to their far more reasonably priced storage.

Little extras included breaking down some furniture and taking it to the tip for me - the only cost of that was the cost they incurred to take a van to the public tipping area - I was not charged for the actual trip to the tip - only what the council charges for them entering the dump in a van.

They organised the parking bay suspensions on my behalf and again, the only charge to me was the charge that the council imposed ie. no admin charge for arranging.

Overall I cannot fault anything and only have praise for this brilliant removals company. They are extremely competitive, in fact far cheaper than a number of other quotes I received - and even though they are cheaper they are still superior to any other removals firm i've ever used.

One further point - they do come and do a survey of your property before your move day to give you a precise quote. I was abroad at the time I needed to arrange this and panicking about how to get it all organised from so far away via email. I shouldn't have worried - they took all the stress out of my move and when I arrived back in London two days before my move and met one of the directors who came round to do the survey he couldn't have been more helpful and professional. All the admin had been organised and it was the least stressful move I have ever done.

I would recommend this company with no hesitation and will most definately use them again.

We were moving the contents of a 75ft container in stroage to our newly renovated home. Booking was easy and efficient, with a swift & competitive quotation. The actual move was all on time as scheduled and the movers were polite, helpful and conscientious. They went over and above to complete the job in a sensible time and were careful to place everything just as we wanted it, in relevant rooms in the home. We paid £160 including VAT for 2 hours and 2 men in a Luton van.

Gentlman and a Van were extremely informative and helpful prior to the move day, dropping off packing boxes etc and explaining the process. On the day itself they arrived on time, were efficient, polite and very professional. Everything was done with the minimum of fuss and within 4 hours my flat was packed, we'd completed the drive across London and everything was unpacked, with the correct boxes in the right rooms of my new home.

I'd thoroughly recommend these guys.

Everything, from the moment we contacted Gentleman and a Van, through to the moment they left our new house in Colchester, was absolutely fantastic. Amazing, friendly service from everyone we spoke to throughout. Our packers / movers were particularly great. Let us put our feet up throughout, and just got on with the job excellently. Moved everything with no fuss at all, and didn't bat an eyelid when our completion was held up. They made a couple of really stressful days seem entirely manageable. Genuinely couldn't have asked for more.

The team of 3 bright young men arrived exactly at the agreed time. They then proceeded efficiently smoothly and cleanly through the packing process. Each item of furniture was wrapped to avoid any scratching etc. At the destination they were again very efficient placing all furniture in the desired locations. They were helpful and courteous throughout and left with all the packing materials . I would have no hesitation in using the company again and would be happy to recommend them .

From start to finish Gentleman and a Van were excellent! The company director came and assessed my move and was very flexible with times and dates in regards to my needs. I live in central london where parking and loading is an issue but they sorted all this by themselves and all I had to do was point out what was going where and Gentleman with a Van did the rest. They arranged for some boxes to delivered in the 2 weeks coming up to the move in case I wanted to pack any particular items of real value or fragilty so I could have peace of mind and as much control as I wanted over the move Moving is very stressful but this has been by FAR the most stress free move I have ever undertaken and this is in large part to Gentleman and a Van! The guys who came were polite, helpful, cheery and ameanable. They went out of their way to make sure I was happy and everything made it to my new place intact and well packed and labelled so I knew where to find everything the other end.  The guys had a hard job as they had to lift it all down from a third floor back up to a third floor and did this with, on the whole. a smile on their faces and never complained at all. They were a very hard working. decent and honest lot of guys as I even found a load of change I had mistakenly left in a jar packaged up when I unpacked. I cannot reccomend Gentleman and a Van highly enough!! If you want a pain free move with a reliable, professional firm you can't do better. I hope the guys get paid well as they work hard enough!

I went to this company after they were recommeded by a friend. All staff  were professional and helpful and the move was seemless. They made a potentially very stresssful day a lot easier with thier attitude and excellent service. We had storage with them also and they provided good packing materials to allow us to pack or own belongings On the day they dismantled furniture and reinstated in the new house and all our belongings arrived in good condition. When problems  arose onthe day ( like getting v large pieces of furniture up v small stairways ) they dealt with them easily and without stress I would thoroughly recommend to anyone. Althogether an excellent service.

I used Gentleman and a Van to move flats in London recently and was really impressed. I was moving from Hackney to the Dulwich area and had a lot of stuff to organise. The guys were friendly and helped me stack my stuff correctly and were great at loading/unloading. I usually just have friends help move my stuff bit my bit, but this time I thought I would do it like an adult and hire a company! It was so much less stressful and much more organised. It was lovely to move into my new flat and have all my stuff neatly stacked up waiting to be unpacked. I would recommend this company as they made the move pretty simple and were a decent price too. Gentleman And A Van are AMAZING!  Jared and Fred could not have been any more efficient, pleasant and utterly brilliant.  They worked so hard and efficiently and everything was in Cobham in no time at all!  Nothing was too much trouble. Having recommended Gentleman And A Van to so many over the years, one can never be 100% certain until having the option to try it out yourself!  I have told my company how brilliant you and your EXCELLENT team have been and we will do our very best to make sure we recommend as many to you as poss! I have used the team at Gentleman & A Van several times both for business and personal removals and each time they are unfailingly efficient, cost effective, cheerful and polite. True gentlemen with very smart logo'd navy vans too. I would not hesitate using or recommending this company.

The work they have done for us ranges from a large house move to moving a couple of items. The costs were more than competitive - for our big move we paid about £2,000 plus VAT for a full house move from a 5 bed Southfields grid home and this included all packing and packing materials and a team leader that was with us for two days to oversee the job and who ensured that despite our enormous amount of stuff we were out in time.

Every matter Gentleman & A Van have dealt with for us has been absolutely flawless with the service being the same whether for a large or small job. If you want a removal and are based in SW London give Mark or James a call.

I moved yesterday from one London flat to another having done my own packing. I already had packing boxes but could have bought them from the company. So this was not a complicated move. Nevertheless Gentleman And A Van were superb throughout. All the people I dealt with - Director, office staff, removal crew - were professional, efficient, friendly, helpful and prompt throughout. At the outset there was a chance I would need to put my stuff in storage for a few weeks but wasn't sure. They were relaxed about quoting for both options and easy about just doing a direct move when things became clearer. For a reasonable charge they arranged parking for the van both ends with the local council (restricted zones). I needed an extra packing box on the day and they promptly provided a secondhand one without fuss or charge. The removal crew even offered to put the bed back together for me as they had finished the job early. And nothing was broken or damaged. I couldn't recommend them highly enough and would certainly use them again.

Overall I was quite impressed with Gentleman and a Van.  Two of my friends recommended them after their recent moves, and I would do the same.  The team was energetic, professional and positively helpful.  They were done in the quoted 2 hour time and was charged the estimated price of £150 plus VAT.  I did not have any damage to my items or any missing items.  I would definitely use this company again and would recommend to any of my friends that are moving in the future.   .
