Simply Removals

Simply Removals offered the cheapest price based on a standard 2 bed house (750 sq ft) and we decided to include packing.  The packers turned up the day before and did an OK job, they missed quite a lot but it was fine.   The real issue was that they informed head office that we had more like 1500 sq ft of items to move and parking was an issue despite not moving any white goods or moving the loft contents.  Head office then quoted an extra £516 to send a large enough van and a 3rd man, despite the original quote being £260.   This is at 8pm Friday when we are moving 9am Saturday. They basically had us over a barrel and knew it. I was fine with paying extra but for the total to increase from £260 to £750 is just opportunistic.  Once I said we would cancel the extra came down to £240, which I paid. On the Saturday the van turned up and had a capacity of 1100 sq ft.  It parked outside the property with no problems.  The 3 removal men were polite, quick and efficient.  They did a good job and we had no complaint with them.   So basically we had 50% more sq ft to move and we got 50% extra removal men, but ended up paying nearly 100% more than the original quote.  If we hadn't got them down from an extra £516, we would have paid nearly 200% more than the original quote. It seems Simply Removals will quote the best price to get your business and then hit you with as much as you as they can get out of you when you have very little option to refuse. All in all I would recommend that you avoid them.

I've read some mixed reviews, in particular that Simply Removals often send vans which are too small. With this in mind I arranged for them to send out an assessor in advance to ensure they would bring the right van on the day. We agreed a time (between 6pm and 9pm) for the assessor to arrive, but he didn't show up. Being the glutton for punishment I am, I phoned them to complain and arrange a new appointment. They didn't show up. I left it at that but then they started calling me to arrange an appointment. I explained my situation and they promised to send out their top surveyor to give me a quote. And he didn't show up. I won't be using them. I'll phone them tomorrow to pass on my complaint directly. Disgraceful.

Do yourself a favour and do not book this company, you're far better off paying a little more for a company that will actually do the job. We sent a list of everything in our house which needed to be moved when we made the booking. On the day they turned up with a lorry half the size they needed. All the driver could say was that it wasn't his problem and that we should take it up with head office. He half filled his lorry and proceeded to try and drive off an hour before we even had the keys to our new house because he was only interested in getting to his next job. We had to argue with him to get more stuff into the lorry and he eventually relented provided that we didn't complain if anything broke. We even had to jump in the lorry to stop him driving off. We ended moving more of our possessions ourselves, over 9 journeys in our cars, than they did. They were absolutly useless, wish we hadn't bothered, they made a normally stressful day even more stressful.

It seems that I am adding another similar tale of woe.  We moved from High Wycombe to Wellingborough (clarifying here as the drop down options don't give us anywhere near to us to choose from). Prior to the moving date the company were very helpful and on every phone call they reiterated that they were sending 2 men to move a 3 bedroomed house.  Prior to the move we had boxed up and moved a lot of our surplus belongings to a storage unit so these did not constitute part of the move for this company.  I was also moving my cats and their belongings myself in a Luton van that I had hired separately.  We did not have 3 fully furnished bedrooms so had expected the move to go well.  On the morning the van turned up - with 2 guys who could hardly speak English.  As soon as they realised that we had cats (which by this time were in the Luton van) one of them started protesting he had an allergy and stuck his nose down his sweatshirt which is the pose he continued with the whole time.  They started to move some of the contents and then starting telling me 'Husband must help'.  I said no he couldn't as he had had a hernia op 2 weeks before and could not lift, to which the response was 'No no, he must help'.  They then started to protest and had a 'break' and also proceeded to stuff the Terms and Conditions under my nose for signing without giving me any chance to read them.  They just proceeded to follow me round stuffing the clipboard under my nose every time I paused for a second.   Surely this should have been presented to me prior to them even starting to load the van.  I could not get them to resume loading the van at all at that stage. I then phoned the company and while waiting for them to find someone to help me, they played their jingle about how you 'don't need to lift a finger' and how they moved David Cameron, which only served to incense me even more.  The guy I eventually spoke to said that we did not have to help load the van and then spoke to the guys.  Their attitude changed quite astoundingly after that.  The van was loaded but there was not enough room for our belongings, most significantly, our two wardrobes from one room, a dressing table, freezer and fridge plus quite a few more boxes and garden equipment.  My partner then phoned the company and we were told that our contents were more than they would expect for a 3 bedroomed house but more for a 4 bedroomed house!  Remember we only had one fully furnished bedroom and we had put the equivalent of 2 Luton Van loads into storage!  They then said they would send another van at the inflated sum of £400 (approx) which at that stage we had no option but to pay.  When that turned up it was even smaller than the first van (no larger than the Luton van) and again could not accommodate all of our remaining belongings.  The first van was not much larger than the Luton van. The excuse then was that we had garden stuff - excuse me, but we had specified a 3 bedroomed HOUSE - doesn't a house have a garden with garden equipment!  We eventually had to make the decision to go back later that evening (thankfully the new owners were not moving in that day!) to collect everything else that the removal vans could not accommodate which meant we did not finally finish our move until 3.00am the next morning.  When the fiasco had finally concluded we found that they had broken both glass doors on our display unit and hadn't told us, leaving one broken in the front garden of our old property and one broken on the driveway of our new property - placed very slyly so that we wouldn't see them until they had finished.AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS.  They would not accept that they had send too small a vehicle to start with and then expected us to pay the inflated cost for the second van.  We could probably have employed Pickfords to move us for less than this cost us and we would have had a much more professional service.After having recovered from our move (after which my partner fractured his hip  and had to have it pinned) we complained to the company to be told it was too late as the 7 days had elapsed. From looking at the reviews, it would appear that this company operates this scam time and time again to ensure they extract more money out of you for a second van and seems to get away with it.  Seems I have to put a star on this review, but to be honest they don't even warrant one star.**.

We had a really quick sale and couldn't get a local company so contacted Simply Removals. Spoke to Fraser who sorted out some vans despite it being only a week before completion. Customer Service was brilliant. All my questions were answered sympathetically and helpfully and I had a few. On moving day two lorries and 5 men turned up. They spoke little English but were brilliant. They worked their socks off and nothing was any trouble, despite the really hot weather. I really cannot thank them enough they were professional and I would recommend them to everyone. I have said I would never move again but if I did I would use this company every time. Well done.

We were quoted for our three bed house and the van and two lads that arrived on moving day seemed hopelessly inadequate. However, they worked very efficiently and very hard and amazingly got all of our stuff packed carefully into the van. No breakages. At new house all belongings taken carefully to various rooms (the narrow winding staircase no problem). A great job, thanks.
My only negative point is that this company don't seem to come out to quote on a job and we only just got our belongings into the van - next time I would overestimate space required.

Moved 1.3miles with furniture for a 1 bed flat and took 7 hours And cost £560!The two men turned up on time but only one could speak English.I warned them immediately that the van looked small and they should put the sofa in first, but was ignored. I also told them to unscrew the arms from the sofa, but I was told that was impossible (despite us doing this later to get into the second flat).My husband is a doctor, and during the loading and unloading process, we were seriously concerned about the fitness off the men, with one having to stop regularly and was breathing scarily heavily.In the end, we ended up assisting the men with most of the carrying, calling several friends to help also. The men also took breaks without letting us know. Absolutely fine to take a break but DON'T JUST DISAPPEAR.Because they could not fit the sofa in, as they ignored my advice, we had to do two trips, upping the cost significantly.On moving big pieces of furniture their words were "not out fault if it gets scratched as your corridor is narrow"- then what skills am I paying for!! Corridors damaged and furniture scratched as a result. SIMPLY APPALLING!!I have used simply removals twice before and were to an excellent standard, moved more furniture and  moved a greater distance within 5 hrs. So this time I chose the by hour rate instead of flat BY THEIR SUGGESTION. Ended up with weaker, less fit and less skilled movers and paying through the nose. I have never been more disappointed with a professional service.

I was moving my flat last month. The van arrived on time but the handlers did not have any packaging materials. They had a wrong job's specs as they  explained to me. This delayed the process significantly as one of the guys had to go away to pick up boxes etc. While unloading the van one of the guys dropped my expensive HEALS mirror. He took the mirror away and I contacted their customer services and filled out the paperwork for the damage. It has been over a month now and I am still chasing them for the update. The customer services/claims departments are just talking heads. They will promise an update and nothing will happen. When you call their call senter they will not transfer your call to any other team. I have wrtitten now to the CEO's office but am still waiting to hear from him. Yes these guys seem to be cheap compared to others but for me it has been a false economy. You will spend alot of time chasing them if anything goes wrong. At this stage I am thinking of taking them to court.  .

Justin and Mario's arrival was perfectly timed. From the start they were efficient, professional, and friendly.
Their advice and experience was invaluable as they made us aware of certain things which would make our move run even more smoothly.
There was no messing about they were straight to the job at hand whilst maintaining a friendly persona.
These are the men you want for your removal day to be stress free. Extremely hard workers and a credit to Simply removals!

We had a really superb move, from start to finish with Simply Removals.Dealing with the initial quote and booking was simple, and the packing team were just fantastic. It was great to use a company that supplied us with brand new cartons including wardrobe cartons, all of which were ours to keep, and so did not have to be unpacked on the same day as the move.The moving team, led by Chris, were also superb and could not have been more helpful. They worked tirelessly and the move went smoothly and easily. Overall, it was one of the most stress free moves we have had.Many thanks.

I had my belongings moved with simply removals on Saturday 10 May. I paid £876 for the move by card the week before and the balance of £60 in cash on the day for dismantling and assembly of some furniture. I am still waiting for a receipt. I told the company before I moved that I needed a receipt and was told to wait until after the move. I have called 3 times and emailed 4 times and been completely ignored. I wish I had used a different company. The two men who did the move were excellent and I was feeling very positive but this experience has turned everything around. I am unable to make a claim with my new employers without a receipt and I am out of pocket because these idiots in the office can't push a button.  I have asked for their complaints procedure as it is not published on their website but surprise, surprise, they have ignored me. Don't use these cowboys.

I can't speak highly enough of these guys. Prompt, professional, diligent and worked extremely hard to make my move as stress free as possible. Everything was packed carefully and logically and even the huge plants were given their own space. The two guys worked so hard I felt guilty having less to do but they were a credit to themselves and the company. I would certainly recommend to friends and colleagues and use again myself if I have tomove again. Thank you.

Having moved three times in three years (internationally), a simple move within London using this company has turned into a complete drama of epic proportions. Possibly one of the worst service experiences I have ever had and I would definitely not recommend to anyone who values efficiency, professionalism and trustworthiness. The whole removal experience from my flat turned into a day of issue and stress (and, ironically, isn't that why we pay other people to handle the whole thing for us? To avoid stress??). I paid the company up front for storage while waiting to move into my new property and they have repeatedly (i.e. each month) taken charges from my current account regardless of having been paid in full already.  Simple accounting is clearly something this company can't do either.  I am now heartily fed up having monthly debates with Simply Removals about what they need to pay me back, please sort out, etc.  It appears from my conversation that nobody seems to want to take ownership. their departments have no communication with each other and, worse, they appear not to have a computer system telling them when I have made payments and how much. Avoid using this company!

We moved from North to South London (3 bed flat to 3 bed house) and had a 3 man team who packed up the whole flat for us and moved us in one day. The team were wonderful - very professional, efficient and personable. I am 8 months pregnant so couldn't help much and they were fantastic - made the whole process smooth and stress free. Would definitely recommend them as they are much better value than other removers who I've used before and provide the same service for twice the price.

We moved at 9am on Saturday. The 2 men were brilliant. They were quick, worked so hard and were very friendly and personable. I was very impressed and wish to thank them very much. Moving day was far from stressful thanks to these two, who did not complain even though it was a hot day and our flat was 2nd floor! They were very professional and worked so hard. They were on time and worked very quickly. They were also very friendly and cheerful which made such a difference to our day.

The worst removal company in the world . Agreed a fixed price contract ,on the day their  lorry broke down for four hours ,hence they were unable to complete the job . That was Friday ,they promised to return yesterday and no one showed up . I have been  chasing all day and given the run around by Damien Moretti and James humphreys both refusing to do anything . People are due to move into the place tomorrow ,now they won't be able to ,thanks to simply removal.  This is the first of many reviews , I keep you posted on this sad saga . I would advise you all to chose a decent removal company and not simply unless removals!

When you call simply removal for this first time, you receive well spoken helpful staff but that is where it ends. We had a packing service that was not done properly. We were packing ourselves on the day we moved, hence we were rushed to finish because the removals staff wanted to go. We have moved a number of times. We have always packed ourselves and have been able to find everything. We would have done a far better job ourselves. It was supposed to be less stressful and it wasn't. We have called customer services left message and called main number demanding someone call us. Poor service, items missing. Yet no one has called us so anyone thinking of using this company, think again. They are unprofessional and don't care. Once they have your money which is paid upfront. Also there is a language barrier.

We were meant to have this lot pick up at our place at 9am on the Saturday.

They didn't turn up so I had to chase them 45 minutes later. I was told someone would find out what was happening and call me back in 10 minutes, which in all fairness, they did.

However, the excuse was that their driver had broken down, and wasn't able to call and yell anyone because of poor phone reception
reception. Now if that was the case, how come they managed to reach him within 10 minutes, yet didn't have a good enough phone reception to contact anyone throughout the previous hour?? When asked, I was refused a straight answer and was told a replacing would be with us, and I'd receive a call to tell me wheb they were arriving

An hour later I had to chase them to be told they'd be there by 12. At 12.20 I called AGAIN as they still hadn't arrived. The response I got was a joke.

I told the young lad on the end of the phone that I paid for a service that was unacceptable, and that I'd had to cancel an important appoint I had organised at 1pm. The response was this

"Well, you can sort it out another time can't you?"

Unbelievable! The only saving grace of the day was yhe guys who eventually turned up to do the move were very fast and efficient.

But the attitude of their so called office staff is beyond a joke!

If you've been reading this then please for your own sanity, DO NOT USE THIS OUTFIT!

Everything about this removal has been awful. The worst experience I have ever had. We booked in for removals between 12pm and 3pm. The packers yesterday were great and fast, although they were late too. Our removals still haven't turned up and everytime we speak to someone they are rude. It is 5:35pm and still no removals. Both people I have spoken to have put the phone down on me. It's 30C outside and I'm 7 months pregnant and no one has accepted any responsibility for this situation. No one has phoned me to say things are running late - it is only because of my continuous phonecalls that I have any idea about the situation. I would have looked into alternate options but have been given no chouice. I would not recommend this company at all, in fact I would actively encourage you to go elsewhere especially if you want to be regarded and spoken to like the customer. This is the most unprofessional company I have dealt with.

Sales team were excellent, do they really know how difficult it is to get your home contents back once it's in their hands. Mistakes on caculations of storage space asked to pay nearly £1000 or we won't get our items back. Paid stated regular amount for 4 months only to be told sorry there has been a mistake. Asked to pay £120 to have the storage manager open up the container where our goods were being stored before the removal guys could pick them up. Pay or we wont open the unit. Have you ever heard anything like this? Items missing, garden slabs missing and the one's received most were damaged. Whole experience a nightmare once we had decided to take our home contents back. I would like to stear anyone moving to stay well clear of this company they don't deserve there customers.  I would like to strongly reccommend the management team need to gone on a course for customer service as they don't have any.  DO NOT USE. WORSE REMOVAL COMPANY WE HAVE EVER COME ACROSS!

Worst movers ever. Horrible service. Did not turn up for quote, despite repeated calls and promises. Lying people on the call. Hopeless. PLEASE DO NOT GO WITH THIS COMPANY.
The company had fixed the time of the appointment between 6pm and 9pm. There was no confirmation of the appointment and on the day of the appointment I had to call them several times to make sure someone was coming. Each time I'm promised that the person is on the way and should be at home in 30 minutes. Nobody turned up, after 9pm, there's no one one to pick up the phone. WORST SERVICE EVER!!

Unfortunately, I didn't read the reviews about this company before we booked this firm. We have made two separate times and dates for this company to deliver boxes. In order for us to start packing, our removal just a few days away. My partner has had to take time off work to ensure someone's home to receive them, and we're still waiting and have has absolutely no communication other than their 'promises'. Well, I wonder if they'd like to pay the money we lost taking time off for their incompetence?  I'm surprised company's like this exist and shouldn't! We have been assured twice now, that the packaging will 'definitely be delivered, and if they're any problems we'll let you know'. Still waiting and nobody's let us know! If you read this review, please, just don't bother! Completely unreliable! It's far too stressful without the incompetence of people who like to call themselves a 'removal company'?! Disappointing (to be very polite) it's just extra problems you really don't need!
