Long-distance move from Leeds, Yorkshire to Leeds, Yorkshire

James, Man with a Van Leeds, Armley.

Do not use. I found James, Man with a Van Leeds (from Armley) on the internet. He turned up late, used bad language, threatening and insulting behaviour. Didn't finish the job, didn't seem to have a clue what he was doing and has been banned from McCarthy's storage! At my home he was bearable but it was when we arrived at the storage company (McCarthys) that his true colours appeared. As soon as we arrived he seemed extremely aggitated that there were not enough trolleys for him to transport my belongings. His language was appauling and at this point he started to rise attention from other storage users. I left them for a short time and when I returned things had escalated dramatically. He approached me enraged by the lack of trolleys and proceeded to tell me that he was going to 'knock out the girl' that was working in the office (his exact words). I was flabbergasted and explained he was completely unreasonable and to abuse staff was not acceptable. His job is to carry furniture and if had removed me to a house there would have been no trolleys!! He then started to abuse me with foul language and insults. My 71 year old father became another person in which he threathened and abused. His language was appauling and his behaviour very aggressive and frightening. It ended up with him not finishing the job, leaving all my belongings in the entrance to the storage company. My parents and I were then left to haul everything into my unit. The situation was extremely distressing, frightening and embarrassing. He abused so many people and completely disgraced himself as well as embarrased is colleague. James, Man with a Van from Armley is now banned from the storage company. James quite clearly has no experience of removals, has no interpersonal skills and no respect for himself let alone others. His website is one big lie!

Long-distance move from Guildford, Surrey to Woking, Surrey

Great, speedy, service.

I recently used Simply Removals for a move from Guildford to Tongham (I put Woking in above as Tongham wasn't there to select from and its about the same distance).

They were always very helpful on the phone prior to the move and ensured they had all the details they needed. The price was much better than anywhere else. On the day the truck arrived and two men stepped out and immediately got to loading everything. They were done in about 1.5 hours. We then made our way to the new house and they unloaded everything ensuring to ask where each item/box should be placed so as to make the unpacking process easier for us.

They were efficient and polite and quick.

Very impressed.

Thank you.

Long-distance move from Guildford, Surrey to Woking, Surrey

Got the job done, but would not recommend again.

This was the second time we have used these people, I really should have learned from last time.
Whilst they did get our items from point A to B, it was hardly stress free.

Both times the movers were rude. They either didn't even speak to you even if you spoke to them or spoke in their own language to each other, which I think is rude.

The second time we used them, one of the guys was genuinely annoyed that there was another bedroom to move.
When our front door was opened, it blocked one of the bedroom doors. As a result they "forgot" about the other bedroom and when they said to me, "we finished?" I had to point out our children's bedroom was still to be done. There was a look of genuine frustration and he queried our order, claiming we didn't state that on the order form and may be charged for the extra work. We pointed out that we stated we had two bedrooms and we have only move one so far, "We'll see" he said as he begrudgingly continued.

He claimed he needed to speak to his office before he could continue but ended up instead taking a cigarette break by the van whilst playing with his phone.

He then complained that our 4 year olds bed was too big to fit through the door (even though the same company managed it last time. He made me disassemble the bed while they both stood and watched me, speaking in their own language or laughing, just to hammer the unease home.

When we finally moved and everything was done, he asked for my signature, mumbled "bye" and bolted for the van. He literally couldn't wait to leave. Nice.

If you find yourself growing frustrated by moving people into their new homes, you might want to rethink your chosen career path, since your sole purpose is to MOVE PEOPLE INTO THEIR HOMES.

Would not recommend and only gave two stars because nothing was lost or broken in transit this time, last time however..

Long-distance move from Guildford, Surrey to Hereford, Herefordshire

Terrible experience.

Absolutely disgusted with this removals company .
We used them , upon moving into our house we started to find a lot of things damaged , we asked what we had to do about this and were told not to worry. Take our time unpacking and then put a list together of everything that was damaged and then submit a claim, we did this it was a long list and after waiting 3 weeks we received a response from the company advising us that as we hadn’t claimed within 7 days we couldn’t claim.
It’s in the small print.
Currently seeking legal advice as I’m disgusted with this company’s behaviour .
Please do NOT use them . I will NEVER EVER use them again.
As an example of their work they refused to move things into correct rooms , claimed a settee was too big for them to move so my 5ft 5 in partner and I had to do it ourselves. Most boxes were all shoved in a downstairs room so they didn’t have to walk upstairs, oh and don’t forget the genius of packing , they packed a full compost bin, along with perishable food and put it into storage for a week. It stank when it came out.
Treated our possessions as junk and acted like moving our items was the biggest pain in the world for them .
I say again DO NOT USE this company .
Absolutely awful.
My one star rating is only as I couldn’t give negative stars.

Well worth it!!

We had a delayed move in which time we lost two of our removal companies. I was recommended Simply by a work colleague so I called and was able to book their last van for the required day with a mere two days notice! And they were cheaper than the other two firms - bonus! We had the Simply packers in on the Thursday and they were excellent. On Friday the movers arrived around 45 minutes early, which was great, and it soon became obvious we would need two vans, which they organised. By the time I arrived at our new house, they were already finished with the unloading!! Both teams, packers and movers, were polite, smiley, and didn't appear to stop! They looked smart and all made the effort to shake hands with us! They even refused offers of tea/coffee and were very sympathetic when my cat disappeared for a while!

When we came to unpack everything ourselves, we found every plate, cup and random thing carefully and individually packaged! They were bogglingly efficient!

(The only thing to note - my mistake at such short notice - they can't transport alcohol so make sure you pack it in the car! I had to go back to the old house for mine but luckily it was only 7 miles away!).

Shocking-never Use This Firm.

I have never had  to deal with a comany that lies so readily. Having raised a complaint with the way our move was handled I've been met with a barrage of lies. We had booked a van no smaller than 900 cubic feet, they sent a transit van!! Cash payment demanded before our items would be released, did not want to argue with 3 men and a golf club!! To state that the comany is incompetent is being polite.

Good service.

Simply removals was competitive and the move went smoothly. The two guys worked very hard and drove carefully with a packed lorry of our stuff (my husband drove behind them so he knew!) No damages occurred. They arrived early, which was slightly off-putting but worked around us packing and were very flexible. Rather early than late! In fact if they hadn't been early it may have been dark by the time we finished as it was an afternoon move. The price included 2 hours of packing as well! Thanks!

Please do Not Use This Company.

PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS REMOVAL COMPANY!
We used them when we moved in December 2018 and it has taken til now to close my complaint and I was not satisfied with the compensation at all but was left with little choice other than to take them to a small claims court which I didn’t want to do.
In short they were 4 and half hours late to pack up our house which meant they were still packing after 8pm and I had a 4 week old baby and a toddler in the house - not acceptable.
They damaged my kitchen table, I got three quotes for a repair all of which were between £300 - £400 and they offered me less than £20 to repair it as they claim the table has depreciated like a car would and the damage is not structural only cosmetic!
To top it all off there complaints department is shocking, I had to chase and chase and chase, hence why it took so long to come to a conclusion!
I worked in customer service for 7 years and I’m all for praising good service and highlighting the bad! So once again please DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!

Long-distance move from Maidstone, Kent to Gloucester, Gloucestershire

Took our money and did not move us!

Paid for two Luton vans to move us due to limited access to the property. The access up a quite steep drive was advised at the time of booking and was the reason why we requested this type of van knowing that deliveries from Currys etc had been fine in these vehicles. This was all accepted and when asked they said that no site visit was required. On the day they turned up late. Didn't even attempt to gain access up the drive leading to the house, the front tyres of the first van were honestly the only part to even touch the driveway. They walked around the house making noises of disgust at how much there was to move. Went off and then came back saying that they needed to speak to the office, un- known to us at this time £1800 was removed from our bank account. We were then told that the move was "impossible" due to the steepness of the hill the dive is on and we would need to pay additional £300 for 8 men to come in three days time to move us. We refused this as we knew full well that the vans could access the property easily. We asked if they could just take the heavier items for us by carrying them to vans at the end of the drive and we would do the rest in the additional van we had rented for smaller items, this was deemed to much work on "Health and safety" grounds. So off they went, when we contacted the office we were told that we had cancelled the job and no refund would be made, refund? we haven't paid yet? it was at that point that we realised they had taken the money earlier in the day. So we paid £1800 for no service at all a week prior to Christmas as well!
We are currently fighting this situation with them as in order to move we rented our own Luton van, drove it straight up the drive loaded it and drove it straight back down again, no problem. My 63 year old father and myself are by no means professional removers as Simply removals claim to be yet we managed quite easily what they deemed to be "impossible". Yes it took us 3 8 hour round trips in three days, the cost of the extra van rental, fuel and time off work but we did the job we employed Simply Removals to do. We had the foresight to video the process as evidence and have sent it to them but are yet to receive a comment. Our complaints have been made through there own "customer services" department but they seem to be more focused on who cancelled the contract than the overriding fact that the contract was made null and void when no attempt was made to fore-fill it. We have also lodged a complaint with The National Guild Of Removers & Storers Ltd who they are apart of, to date they have been very helpful acting as a go between. But I fear that ultimately as advised by our solicitor this will have to be settled through the small claims court but should be a very open and closed case in our favour.
Please take our advise and look else where these people really are appalling at what they promote they do.

Long-distance move from Maidstone, Kent to Maidstone, Kent

Lost item and promised compensation not paid.

I used Simply Removals to move and store my things for a week while I waited for the keys to my new flat. Whilst everything went smoothly at the collection, when my things were delivered the removalist admitted that the sidebars to my art deco bed were missing. I was told that someone from customer services would call me in the morning to let me know if they had been found. I didn't hear from anyone at all the next day, and when I called them it took two days of me chasing to be told that they had lost the sidebars. Fortunately, I was able to buy some replacements from a bed restoration comp[any and Simply Removals promised to reimburse me the cost. I was sent a compensation form which I filled in and sent out but now, almost a month later, I still haven't received the compensation and can't get a likely payment date from Simply Removals. Their customer service department just tells me that they will once again remind the payments department. This is a company that is happy to take your money at the earliest opportunity but hasn't bothered to invest any of in their customer service practice.

Do Not Use This Company.

I paid £900 for pack and move during the summer.
1. They didn't move everything, the van was too small meaning I had to do several extra trips myself!
2. Several high value items went 'missing' sometime during the pack and move. Very careless approach to moving large items of furniture leading to marks on walls and some pieces damaged.

I've raised both issues with their customer care who are extremely unresponsive and keep passing me from pillar to post.. no prospect of any compensation at the moment.

I raised the issue of missing items with the Police who investigated. Of course the moving staff deny theft so that is that (no other evidence) but the Police suspect Simply Removals aren't a legitimate company and have referred them to Trading Standards!

Long-distance move from Coventry, Warwickshire to Edinburgh, Midlothian

Appalling service.

An appalling experience with this company.  The removal men turned up and started by disagreeing with what was expected.  No-one had told them, they couldn't take furniture apart.  I was very clear that I had agreed it on the phone and I wasn't leaving furniture behind.   In the end they did dismantle and out back together at hte other end.  Although I think it would have been better if they had not.  Futniture was not put back together properly and drawers were damaged.   More concerning was the fact that not all of my boxes arrived at the destination.  Some were missing, although they offered to let me check the truck, which was empty.  But somewhere between Warwickshire and Essex a portion of my boxes seem to have disappeared.   An appalling shoody company that I would never use again.

Fantastic service.

The guys from from the rugby area headed up by Chris were absolutely amazing!! I cannot compliment them enough. They were so polite, professional, friendly. Just amazing! They picked up chests of drawers full of clothes like it was a bag cushions. Nothing fazed them, the weather was awful but they made care to put mats down so they didn't make a mess. If I ever decide to move again I would definitely use again and will recommend to everyone I know who is moving.

Long-distance move from Coventry, Warwickshire to Coventry, Warwickshire

Should have read the reviews before booking..

I needed a removals firm on what I was later to discover was the busiest weekend of the year for removals companies.

I tried a few and found their quotes to be far higher than what they originally advertised. When Simply Removals gave me a quote that was close to what I was expecting, I was very happy.

The quotation process was fairly simple. I spoke to a chap on the phone and he asked me what furniture needed moving and then quoted me on this basis. Other companies would send someone to get a proper quotation but Simply Removals were happy for me to just speak to a salesperson. I wasn't too worried about this as I was very clear about what needed moving and I was also in the lucky position of not having to totally empty one house and if I had forgotten to mention something that could not be taken, then it was not going to be the end of the world. Had it been a conventional house move where everything needed to go in one day then I don't think I would have been quite as comfortable not having someone else verify my thinking.

It was only after I had booked, that my Fiancee had a look online and found the masses of negative reviews of Simply Removals. Understandably, the reassurance that they moved David Cameron was no longer holding sway and stories of removals men that did not speak English and had little regard for peoples possessions or property filled me with dread.

As it turned out, I was right to be worried.

We had booked a removals slot with the lorry expected between midday and 3pm. I called at midday to see what time they were expected and was told by the efficient controller that they would be with me between 2:30pm and 3pm and I would receive a call from the driver when he was half an hour away. Fair enough I thought. I did get the call at 2:15 from the driver saying he was 15 minutes away. I was a little dismayed when an hour later a very past its best blue van turned up in a cloud of exhaust fumes and two men got out. Suddenly, every bad review which previously sounded a little overly negative seemed to appear to be shockingly accurate.

The man who was in charge set about loading the van with a degree of efficiency which gave me some confidence. I was very doubtful that the van would be big enough so I asked him if he thought he would get everything loaded. He then told me that he usually just did packing not removals and he showed me the text from control telling him to expect to make 2 or three journeys. He also explained that they were late because they had come up from London.

They were certainly quick but they did not have enough regard for either the things being moved or the house being moved from or into. There were a lot of breakages, a lot of scratched wall paper, scraped floors, scratches on furniture and bashed and marked walls. I had to stop watching as I was cringing so much with every bit of damage done.

In the end, we made it in two runs. Lots of damage but on reading the fine print in the contract, it was my responsibility to document all of these before the removal men left. This was something that would not have been possible to do unless I had been able to supervise their every move. I am still finding new scratches and dents in stuff but I have no doubt at all that they will not accept any liability and their insurance excess would probably make the process not worthwhile even if they did admit to the damage.

Bad service.

The service I received from simply removals was very poor. The van came 4 and half hours late. When they arrived they seem to not know what they were supposed to do even though I had explained to them what I wanted the man to do prior to moving. Before I booked their service I asked them if they would be able to dismantle my sofa and cot bed and the man I spoke to said no problem but the man that arrived to help me move told me straight away sorry we can't do it. They were very slow and kept disappearing. Very unprofessional and one of them could hardly speak English I had to keep explaining the same thing over and over. Even though I told them my 2 year old daughter had not eaten all day, the man stopped at a takeaway shop to buy themselves food whilst me and my daughter had not eaten all day. It's only when I started crying, when they offered her a burger that she can't even it. They made an already stressful day even more stressful. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone.

Great Service.

I have to say the Surrey team that moved us from Dorking to Bletchingley Surrey were excellent and worked very hard to move our items with great care. They did not stop until the last item was move into our house. They even stop us moving things ourselfs and took the load off us. Fantastic service.

Living in a second floor flat was never easy. Tesco often refused to deliver groceries, Argos made me drag a freezer singlehandedly down the stairs while they stood aroud watching, basically, it was awful. So I hired a removal company with much trepidation expecting them to turn up, count our stairs and immediately start spouting health and saftey laws and basically sitting back to watch me load the van myself. Except that didn't happen at all. The guys bounded up the stairs, keen and enthusiastic to get started and lumped all our furniture down to their van with the strength of ten men. Ive never seen anyone heft a fridge freezer on to their shoulder and then run back up the stairs moments later to collect the next item, but now I have. They packed everything more expertly than a Tetris champion and there wasn't so much as a broken wineglass when we got it all unpacked. They even managed to get our oversized settee through a doorway not made for anything larger than a dining room table in a sheer feet of ingenuity and acrobatics. And all in less than two hours.

Not sure if it was purely the luck of the draw that we got such fantastic, hard working, committed removal men but as I'm not usually a lucky person, I'll take it!

Simplyremovals review. Shocking service, do not use.

Terrible experience with this company. I was warned against using them but being strapped for cash used them anyway as they were cheapest. Now I know why. They were 2 hours late, rude and abrassive (both the removals team and the office staff) they damaged our belongings and made the whole experience unbelievably stressful. I made a complaint to the company which was a list as long as your arm. So many problems with them. 3 weeks later after 2 chaser emails from
myself I recieved a horrendous response showing that they had not investigated my complaint. They Refused to reopen my complaint so I will be going to the ombudsman.

Simply Removals..Simply the Best!!

My move was incredibly cost-effective, especially considering the distance (over 100 mile). The removal personnel arrived promptly and were incredibly helpful and effecient. They were also patient with us stressing out and making sure that we had left our old apartment in a worthy state for the next tennants, giving us time to clean up etc. The drive down was smooth, and they had researched where our destination was, not even stopping or delaying. Our life's possessions were looked after very carefully indeed. Simply removals do what they say on the tin, the procedure is easy, the service is professional and the outcome was excellent. We can recommend them to anyone. All trips are covered appropriately via insurance. I understand that moving home is meant to be a stressful event, but Simply Removals took away any hassle, made the day go easily and followed through on every detail. We couldn't have asked for more. If we ever move again, they are our first stop and we will be recommending them as the company of choice to all of our friends/family.

Simply Removals, simply the best!

I was more than pleased with this removal service and in particular the two men who carried out our move.

Total move time, from arrival at the pick up end, to departure at the delivery end, was about 8 hours (transport time was about 20 minutes as this was a local move). The removal men only accepted one offer of a cup of tea and even then continued to work solidly. As evening approached we offered them a take away meal and a break - both of which were declined. I actually don't know how they kept working so hard without breaks.

The cost was.

Long-distance move from Luton, Bedfordshire to Luton, Bedfordshire

Bad experience.

Simply Removals offered the cheapest price based on a standard 2 bed house (750 sq ft) and we decided to include packing.  The packers turned up the day before and did an OK job, they missed quite a lot but it was fine.   The real issue was that they informed head office that we had more like 1500 sq ft of items to move and parking was an issue despite not moving any white goods or moving the loft contents.  Head office then quoted an extra £516 to send a large enough van and a 3rd man, despite the original quote being £260.   This is at 8pm Friday when we are moving 9am Saturday. They basically had us over a barrel and knew it. I was fine with paying extra but for the total to increase from £260 to £750 is just opportunistic.  Once I said we would cancel the extra came down to £240, which I paid. On the Saturday the van turned up and had a capacity of 1100 sq ft.  It parked outside the property with no problems.  The 3 removal men were polite, quick and efficient.  They did a good job and we had no complaint with them.   So basically we had 50% more sq ft to move and we got 50% extra removal men, but ended up paying nearly 100% more than the original quote.  If we hadn't got them down from an extra £516, we would have paid nearly 200% more than the original quote. It seems Simply Removals will quote the best price to get your business and then hit you with as much as you as they can get out of you when you have very little option to refuse. All in all I would recommend that you avoid them.

Didn't Turn Up. 3 Times.

I've read some mixed reviews, in particular that Simply Removals often send vans which are too small. With this in mind I arranged for them to send out an assessor in advance to ensure they would bring the right van on the day. We agreed a time (between 6pm and 9pm) for the assessor to arrive, but he didn't show up. Being the glutton for punishment I am, I phoned them to complain and arrange a new appointment. They didn't show up. I left it at that but then they started calling me to arrange an appointment. I explained my situation and they promised to send out their top surveyor to give me a quote. And he didn't show up. I won't be using them. I'll phone them tomorrow to pass on my complaint directly. Disgraceful.
