Long-distance move from London, Greater London to London, Greater London

They were the reason I was able to move.

My work life keeps me so busy I don’t really have time to do anything other than eat and sleep when I get home. A move became necessary for me, so finding the time to take care of everything seemed unlikely. I was aware that removal firms could assist me but I wasn’t sure I could find one who could do everything for me and that I could trust them. However, I stumbled upon Handy Moves and they were exactly what I needed. They were able to take care of most moving matter without any significant intervention from me and I was happy to see their staff handling my belongings carefully. They were the reason I was able to move so I will recommend them to anyone.

I would go as far to say that they were fantastic.

A top job was done by this company. You really do need removal men who know how to work if you've got any chance of your removal day going to schedule and that's why I chose this company because a friend of ours, my wife's friend actually, said the removal men they have with this company were superb. I don't know if there were the actual same people he had that I had, we weren’t sure, but it was always a good sign that they have good removal men and that made the difference to my families moving day. The price is as good as you'll find anywhere and there was no trouble with paperwork or anything. Everything was done smoothly and I would definitely use Handy Moves again.

I had bid concerns about my furniture.

We recently needd to relocate and we were looking for an efficient way to transport the enormous amount of stuff we had.My primary concern was moving furniture, because there were valuable antiques among. Disassembling was out of the question, which made the task even more complicated. This didn't seem to be a problem for Handy Moves and they managed even the most difficult removal tasks with ease. Thank you so much for the good work.

Long-distance move from Barnet, Greater London to Worthing, West Sussex

Very sad experience.

I have book van removal to move my furniture from North London to Worthing.
They supposed to arrive at 8am but were more than half an hour late.
Initially I was impressed with their efficiency and I offered them help to move boxes so it would speed up whole process.
As soon as they left I have received a phone call from their office to confirm my payment details. When I checked my valet I have noticed that £160.00 of cash was missing. Then I realized that when I was taking boxes downstairs they were left unattended, therefore there was an opportunity for any of these men to go through my handbag. I have contacted police but apart of a phone call, police couldn't help me as all questioned men denied charges.
Handy Moves refused to give me any compensation or refund. I am greatly disappointed with this company and I will never recommend them to any of my friends.

Extremely professional moving company.

My removal experience was handled extremely professionally and I feel obliged to say thanks to the lads who helped us move our 2-bedroom flat. From the initial quotation to the moving date, we were treated politely by the customer operatives who worked so hard to help us move from Maidstone to London. These lads made our moving experience so pleasant and one positive review is not enough to express our gratitude for their pleasant attitude, quality of service and so helpful suggestions regarding the placement and assembly of our furniture. That is why I don't have any hesitation in recommending Handy Moves to anyone planning to move house.

Inexperienced and Keen to take their time.

This is not a professional removal company. They have no sheets to protect carpets or floors. They were quick to take things apart, but would not assemble them at the other end. Furniture was just dumped in the room, with no positioning. The quote asked for an inventory of what was to be moved, but the vehicle sent was too small, meaning two runs and a considerable price overrun. They refused to unload furniture until the grossly inflated price was paid in full.

I recommend that you find another removal conan rather than consider these amateurs.

Horrible! Avoid and read below.

First of all they are not on the market 15 years.. its a very small company owned by two foreigns who currently struggle to keep it floating.. they are under a volontarely agreement which basically means last step before bancrupcy..
Booking them you risk loosing money as they can disolve any time.
First of all they were late over 3 hours and I was very specific about the time when the job can be done.. they said their van had a problem.. no wonder why.. when I saw the van I was wondering if that thing can still drive.
To pack one desk and one small storage unit tv and audio it took them one hour. They lost one piece of the desk (found later after tons of emails) and lost a mirror..
Also because Ive arranged parking in the morning and they arrived too late they received a PCN fine for wrong parking.. Of course they charged me for that!!
In addition they tried to charge me for conjestion zone.. but None of the properties in in that zone.. Zone is also not in between of the properties.
To drive the distance of 1.8 miles they needed over 1.5hours (heaviest traffic takes me about 25mins). Clearly guys went for luch or had a nap in their breaking van.
Finaly they arrived to my place.. both of the guys looked like homeless.. they were utra slow.. stoping for a chat every time I didn't watch. Their clothes were dirty and my security had issues to let them in based on their look.
FInaly Ive claimed the PCN and Conjestion charge and the missin piece from them but Ive had to send approx 30 emails and make a lot of calls. They decided to refund after my lawyer wrote to them but.. I still didn't get the refund!

Handy Moves.

The most unprofessional late and lazy removals I have ever experienced. The office staff used to book this led me to believe that the subsequent service would be a quality one.  However, when the removals were 2 hours late and then looked on whilst I did all the moving, I felt compelled to give this review. The removals staff turned up in jeans and loafers looking completely unprepared to move in a safe manner. I had booked them in for a move in three weeks time willing to give them a second chance but then when I spoke with the office, they offered a very unsatisfactory 10 per cent discount. Avoid these removals if you want your move to proceed smoothly. .

Can I select less than one star?

To hand move manager,

I’m writing to make an official complain on the listed job below.

This job was scheduled at 2:30 PM on Sunday 24th March, but it turned out to be a totally disgraceful disaster.

·         At 2:30pm Sunday, I did not see any service van arrived on the agreed address. Having called to your office, I have been told the van is delayed. It was very stressful that no one give me a head-up on this delay. I have to manage to find out the van driver’s mobile myself in order to get on hold with him.

·         This van driver’s attitude was very rude and he did not apologise and just tell me he will be late for 1.5 hour!

·         I tolerate this and wait another 1.5 hour. I called him again and he said he will be another 40 minutes late. Having got my mobile number, who on the planet earth will NOT let the customer know that he will be serve late again?!

·         During this whole process, your officer lady, named Maria, was totally unhelpful. She did not chase up the van for us; did not try to arrange another van for us; did not give me any head-up on the sever delay and did not show any sympathy on our situation. She promised cancel this job at no charge and to send us an email confirmation on the cancellation of this job but I still did not receive it.

Let me ask you, if you have packed your whole house and wait to be moved to a new address, what will you feel to be left in a situation like this. This utterly upset and disappointing experience let me made my decision to cancel this job. I believe no charge should be taken in the initial credit card we provided and the related officer should be punished by their poor service.

Handy Moves, London W12 9EE.

Robert & 3 men did an excellent job of mopping up the crap which Handy Removals delivered during my experience with them over the last 2 days.
I had booked a packing & moving service, which was quoted at £1600 approx. On day 1, nobody arrived at 8am..or 8.30am or anytime yesterday morning. When I rang at 9am, I had been booked only for the moving (even though the confirmation booking form had stated both). As well, my husband took 2 hours off work to wait for these men to arrive whilst I took the kids to school! Finally 1 man showed up at 2pm and a 2nd man 2 hours later. They packed as well as they could, until 10pm, which was admirable but a total inconvenience to our family life with 3 young kids. Then today during the shift, the furniture which were originally flat packed brand new and built within the bedrooms - were not dismantled as promised & forced down our beautifully painted white stairs, chipping & scratching the paint in numerous places. When I asked the men to please be more careful I was confronted by Adrian -a large tall intimidating man. He argued with me and gave me (the customer) his bad attitude and behaved unprofessionally. He also said that the scratches were there beforehand, pointing at my walls and telling me how dirty they were. Not impressed. After complaining to Jamie at Head office (which if you are lucky Jamie will bother to return your call), I asked Adrian to be removed from the job. Jamie requested that I allow Adrian to drive his Luton van to my new house and unload what was already packed. Reluctantly I agreed to this, but as soon as Adrian saw me at the new house, he confronted me about 'Why did you call my manager, I didn't make those scratches, it was one of the other guys'. I told him that I complained about his attitude regarding the damage to my house and his argumentative & aggressive behaviour towards me. He then continued to argue with me, to which I responded by asking him to not enter my property. Moving house is one of the most stressful times in your life and it certainly does not help having an Adrian in your home to intimidate you during this process. I complained again to Handy Removals & actually became upset at the situation. I insisted that Handy Removals replaced Adrian asap, which they did..but this set us back another hour. The four men that helped me today did an excellent job and apologised for Adrians behaviour. Unfortunately at the end of the day, when I refused to pay for the service until the damaged paintwork was fixed and that there was disciplinary action taken against Adrian, I was told that perhaps there was a 'clash of personality'. There was a 15min session of the phone being passed between myself and Robert with his line manager Dave. Dave was telling me that if I didn't pay, then Robert & his team would not get paid. I have asked Dave to visit my place immediately to view the damage made, but Dave says that he would send someone else as he can't leave the office. Hopefully he will send someone as promised, as nothing that Handy Removals have promised yet has actually been delivered. Would I recommend them - NOT IN A MILLION YEARS!

Handy Moves Left Me High and Dry - Do Not Use.

I booked Handy Moves when I was moving from a room in shared flat to another flat a few miles away also in London. Wendy, who took the booking was very friendly, helpful and responsive, so left me with a feeling of confidence. That was a great mistake!

45 minutes before Handy Moves were due to arrive, I received a call telling me that they had had a series of problems that day and would not be coming to me. Unfortunately, because I needed to be out of the flat the following day (which I had discussed with them when I made the booking), this was a huge problem.

To make things even worse, although I agreed with the guy who broke the bad news about them not coming that I would call him later to try to make an alternative plan, I left four messages for him to call me back. He never did.

The result was that I had to find another removals company on extremely short notice. Thankfully, the second company were comparable on price and reliable.

Of course things can go wrong, but the extremely short notice that they were not coming, the difficulty in communicating with them to find a solution and the lack of support / concern over my situation make this utterly unprofessional and unacceptable.

My advice would be to steer well clear of Handy Moves.

Handy Moves - Terrible Management and Service.

I have used Handymoves on a number of occasions now, but unfortunately have reason to complain regarding the recent works booked with them. On the 2nd of January 2012, movers attended my previous property and moved my goods to my new property. Unfortunately one of my cars was parked with a flat battery in front of my previous address garage. Understandably the movers could not transport a very large item from the garage, which would have to pass the car too tightly. However, they also left an expensive Bisque radiator, many items from the garden, including a BBQ that would easily fit past the car and multiple items within the property itself! The team also managed to reverse their van directly into the guttering on my new house, which has damaged the fixings. It was not possible to check for damage at the time as it was dark. Upon discovering the items at my previous address (the following day), I called into Daniel who assured me that the issue would be dealt with and that he would call back that morning. The following day, I called again due to no call back. Another office member informed me that Daniel was not about, but he would make sure that I was called back. Again, this did not happen and I was left another day with no call back. Finally, my patience was shattered after another call to Handymoves was made, only to find out that the driver himself was going to call me back, but your office could not even suggest a time when the call would be made.

Unsurprisingly, I have never received the promised call from the driver. Instead, I was informed that Handymoves could not provide a team on the Saturday, even though they had been made aware of my completion date, and suggested that the move would be charged at full rate.

Obviously this was unacceptable to myself and instead I salvaged what I could from the property prior to completion, but have lost around £2.5K of goods, still contained at the property!

To add insult to injury, Hanymoves moved the exact same items last year, completed in half the time to an amazing demonstration of professionalism (of the team)and at half the price!

I consider that Handymoves are relying totally on the "teams" sent each time, but their actual management is poor to say the least. They have no idea how to manage or deal with problems and just ignore you once you have made the payment.

AVOID.

Awful dealing with Handy moves.

Dealings with Handy moves We booked Handy moves to come for 3pm. The day before I received a phonecall at around 5.30pm to ask whether we could bring the move forward to 1pm which I said was ok. I then received a call again from Handy Moves around 7pm asking if it could be 12.30pm but asked to keep it at 1pm. The day of the move I received a call from Handy moves at 13:00 to inform me that because the team had to swap vans they would be arriving at 2pm instead and would keep me informed.  At 14:07 with no removals team showing up, I called the Handy moves office to be told that they were 5 miles away according to GPS and stuck in traffic so would be 40 minutes.  At 14:25 I received another call to say that they were 6 miles away and going to be another 40 minutes! When I asked how come they were further away than they had been half an hour ago I was told that the van had got lost. When I asked why they weren't using their GPS I was told that it was broken and they were fixing it, although they had been using it half an hour previously. Had no choice but to cancel as we had changed all our plans to suit Handy moves and they were evidently not going to show up. Not one person could give me a straight answer. .

Unreliable - would not recommend at all.

We had booked Handy Moves weeks in advance for a 2pm pick up on Monday.  They called 48 hours prior to move the booking to 4pm with no apology or reason which gave us no alternative choice to agree.  They then called at 3.15pm the day of moving and told us they were running late and would be with us at 6pm.  They then showed up at 7pm.  Completely unacceptable and really quite unreliable.  I was worried that they wouldn't show up at all.  We didn't finish moving until 10pm that evening hence an extra day's charge at our new flat not to mention a day wasted taking time off as annual leave.  The removal men were Romanian and quite good and friendly but one didn't speak English and they trod dirt into the newly cleaned cream carpets at the new flat.  They stopped to have a cigarette break after a particularly heavy item which they had loaded up a lot of stairs!  I didn't mind them having a break but they were sat in the van on our couch with all our belongings and smoking with it all which I didn't like.  All in all I wouldn't recommend this company but it would have been impossible without the van and the help so I would definitely recommend looking into a removals company elsewhere!

Terrible.

Do not use! Terrible firm. They underestimated the job, then fewer men than booked turned up, they turned up late, we had to hire extra people to help out on the day (we only finished getting out of our old house at 10pm), horrendous customer service, and they have left a huge pile of rubbish outside our old house that they promised to remove the following morning which, three days on, is still there and they won't give a pick up date. And had the cheek to threaten to take us to court if we didn't pay up!

Absolutely terrible experience.  I had booked 2 weeks in advance, then was called on the day of moving 4 hours before the move and told it was not possible.  They said that another move had been started in the morning and would take all day so they couldn't do mine.  The lady on the phone said she would find out what she could do and would phone me back in an hour.  She never phoned back.     As a result I had to arrange a short notice removal that cost me a lot more money.  Do not use!

Removal and Packing.

We used Handy movers to move us from Lewisham in London to Bridgend in South Wales in Aug 2012. The first team arrived on the day before the move to pack, did a decent job of packing but did not finish in the allotted time due to us underestimating the amount of boxes needing packing. A provisional arrangement was made for them to return the following day to finish, but this did not happen. I would have happily paid extra for this. The next day, the removal men arrived on time, did a good job packing the van and arrived on time in South Wales. Both men worked very hard and did a 12hr day including travel. My only complaint would be a lack of english understanding with the removal team. Overall I would recommend Handy Movers. Thay are cheap, efficent, work hard and are good value.

Never bothered to show up.

I booked Handy Moves a couple of weeks in advance of my scheduled move.  On the face of it the pre-move admin appeared professional.  On the day of the move they were due to show at 8am.  By 8.45am there was no sign of them.  When I finally did get through to them (after being diverted numerous times to a central call centre which just took messages)  they told me one of the men was ill and they couldn't find anyone else.  Don't bother using them - unless you want to add to the stress of moving.    .
