Long-distance move from Derby, Derbyshire to Nottingham, Nottinghamshire

Left me with nothing.

Do not ever use this company.
They will with hold your goods at there depot and charge you extra.
I paid them £740 to move me over to Sutton-in-Ashfield from derby. They told me when they did the quote that they would supply rails for my clothes and they didn't. They turned up at 10.30 and they were aware the there had been problems with the exchange but we decided to go ahead in the hope that the money would transfer for the house that afternoon. All my stuff was packed on the trucks fine and the 3 guys they sent were lovely. They set off to the new house with my stuff. I drove up to Mansfield to get the keys from the estate agents. I got a phone call from their manager at 15.45 to say that they would need to charge overtime at £90 a hour. I accepted this. I got the keys at 16.30. I was walking back to my car with the keys to head back to the new house when I got a phone call from a very abrupt and rude receptionist who told me that the men were returning to the depot with all my belongings. I was very upset and told her I had nothing with me at all. She didn't appear to care and said that the men would leave a bed on the garden and that they would load my things into storage and redeliver in 4 days time. I was horrified. I told her that I had agreed to pay overtime and she said that nothing had been said to her and the men were leaving. I got back to the house to find a mattress left. No bedding no pillow nothing. I have a pituitary tumour and hypoparathyroidism and I realised that my life saving medication was packed on the truck. My gp had to order emergency medication because I tried to ring their office and nobody was answering. I had nowhere to go and no clothes food belongings at all. The following day I rang them up by this time very angry. The receptionist was adamant that they could not deliver for another 3 days right before Xmas day. I told her that I would get another company to fetch my stuff that day. She put the phone down on me. Then I rang her back and asked why she had put the phone down and she said it was because she had finished speaking. I explained that my medication was on the truck and she said that was my fault for packing it. I told her that I would contact the police because it amounted to theft. I got a phone call later that day and was told that they would deliver the next morning at a cost of a further £990 which included redelivery storage costs and 2 hours overtime for them having to unload my things into storage. I was contacted to give card payment over the phone otherwise they would not deliver. I was very distressed. I paid and made it clear that it was under duress. My belongings were delivered but so much in the boxes has been broken including a unique stained glass clock and many of my glasses and one of my picture frames. I still haven't found any of my remote controls for my TV etc. Also the attachments that hold my shelves in my glass unit are missing so it's rendered useless. I am now left with no money to buy family Xmas presents as a result. This company are fraudsters. If it took them 2 hours to unload my stuff at their depot and they knew I was 10 minutes away before they left the house they should have simply charged overtime to unload it at the house. But they wouldn't do that because they took my goods so that they could charge again for delivery in addition to the overtime. I will not stop until this company are out of business because they treated me so appallingly that day. I have never known such vindictive administration staff and such fraud should be punishable. I will be seeking damages and compensation having already spoken to trading standards. Apparently they are approved by Which. I will be informing every agency that endorses this company and ensuring that all people are, aware of their bad practices.

Relocate to Spain.

Simpsons were first class in every way. They collected my home contents on time and delivered them to Spain at exactly the time I had hoped for. They were professional and courteous from the office staff to the delivery guys. And my belongings were stored and transported with the utmost care. I would recommend their services to anyone considering a move.

Simpsons quotation.

I asked for quotations for an immediate move, and Simpsons was one of the companies that replied. They were not the cheapest, and my move was done well by another mover.

Since then I have had almost daily emails asking me to reconsider, and telling me how wonderful Simpsons are. I have emailed to say that my move is complete, but my emails are bounced back as undelivered.

I have phoned them, and was told that the emails would stop, but still they come.

Do not ask them to quote - they will never leave you alone!

Move to Canada.

I will preface this review by recommending you do not use this company under any circumstances.

We contracted with Simpson's to move our furniture from the UK to Nova Scotia Canada. We awarded our business based on promises made in writing regarding the final delivery address which was unknown at the time of signing the contract. When we finally purchased our house in Nova Scotia we contacted Simpson's to arrange shipment. They then completely ignored their original promise and told us it would cost a substantial amount more to ship our furniture to the final destination address. Furthermore, they told us the goods would not be shipped until the additional amount was paid. When we questioned them regarding the promises made, they then lied through their teeth to substantiate the additional charge. We had no choice but to make the payment.

Simpson's had contracted with a Canadian agent to ship our furniture from Halifax to our new home. Naturally the Canadian agent would not ship the goods until they received payment from Simpson's. Simpson's caused us further stress by deliberately delaying this payment. We were within hours of being forced to use our own credit card to release the goods.

When we originally spoke to Simpson's we were obtaining quotes from several companies. Simpson's were completive and their response was always, "don't worry, we will work with you". Once they had been awarded our business and we had paid them, this changed dramatically. The General Manager, Peter Turner refused to support the promises made by his employee and became almost offensive when challenged. Melanie Simpson, who one assumes is part of the founding family, did not seem to be concerned that her company was lying to us. The whole experience became a nightmare during what should have been a very positive and exciting time.

I will reiterate my recommendation. Never, ever use this appalling company.

Great Service.

Recently did an international move (UK to Sweden) with this company and it couldn't of been easier. We had a home visit for the estimate, and didn't end up paying any extra when the volume was again calculated in storage. The removal men were quick and well rehearsed with what the they doing on both sides of the job. Everything came out of storage in exactly the same condition it went in, I was expecting maybe one or two breaks with the nature of the move, but even with some glass furniture I have found no damage worth noting. The job was carried out by Simpsons throughout, no third parties for us, the process was four months including requested storage time. This was our first big move so I emailed a lot and always got a concise reply within a day or two. They seem a tad expensive in comparison to other companies but seeing others moving into our building with other companies I see why they are. I definitely recommend them, and will use them again if I ever need too.

Still discovering missing items..

Horrendous! Dreadful from (almost) the start - lies and cover ups, stuff missing too from my move from UK to France. Given my treatment from Simpsons Removals & Storage Ltd., and despite the fact I took out extra insurance, I just know to go after them for damages and loss will result in nothing. Two months later (you can imagine it takes a while to fully unpack - plus I'm running a business) I'm still discovering lots of missing items!! Simpsons MUST be aware of unclaimed items knocking about. I guess they have staff who have lucked out and claimed part of MY HAUL. The packers were appalling - one of the Simpsons Removals & Storage Ltd. Packing Staff's opening line was "I have to get this done quick, as I've got an interview for another job later". Their behaviour and language was an absolute disgrace. The 'surveyor' wildly underestimated my load..lets call him "Tom", as that's his name. Clearly, looking back, the quote given to me was clearly designed to win the business. I was lulled by the patter, and then TOM declined to stand by his initial conversation and I was told by his boss that TOM was 'upset'!! Ha, I doubt he was as upset as I was!! The quote which arrived by email was even less than Tom Thetford's verbal account when we met at my storage unit - a storage unit which gave a clear indication of what I had to pack onto his lorry.. There were items NOT in the storage unit and I told the surveyor TOM what they were - INCLUDING precise DIMENSIONS of a pool table. Just before I signed another member of staff assured me "the more you have the cheaper it is" - this turned out to be rubbish. The final invoice was almost twice the original quote with extra insurance on top. Lots of to-ing and fro-ing of emails, especially with thew staff member who hooked me - lets call him "Ersin" as that is his name - and I actually received an email (in error) from Ersin's superior telling Ersin NOT to contact me!! - Professional - er, NOT. Then Simpsons Removals & Storage Ltd. lied about delivery and I had given them well over a months notice - nearly two months really. I would never have booked if I felt they couldn't accept my 5 day window for delivery. But they waited until I was in France and then calmly told me (on email only) that "two lorries were broken down" and my delivery was now June 6th!! It should be noted that I have since been told by a staff member that this wasn't the case with the lorries!! It is my belief they took on too much work, and decided to shift my dates to suit themselves. So, the delivery was cancelled for two weeks, leaving me stranded in France with nothing for my house or new business. I requested on April 10th to deliver my possessions between 23rd and 26th May..lots of mutterings about how this "should be OK" Simpsons Removals & Storage Ltd. cancelled - by email - on 22nd May. They set a new date of June 6th and this was missed by 24 hours as Head Office sent my delivery guys on another job! Instead of me the guys were sent (past me) to South of France and then back up.. making it impossible for them to get to me on the day. A disaster from start to finish - DO NOT USE!! I didn't believe a word they said after a while. They let me down hugely and I would never have signed up had I known the parameters. Make sure when you book that you lock down dates..do not believe "it should be OK". Simpsons Removals & Storage Ltd. were an expensive mistake. I have friends moving into mainland Europe, and I am making sure they all know to dodge Simpsons Removals & Storage Ltd. totally and warn others of the same. Of course, they gave me the option to cancel - by which time they had my deposit and all my possessions in a lock up in Dartford, so it would have cost me to repatriate it back to my storage unit. Ah. memories flooding back of what was an excruciating and terrible experience with Simpsons Removals & Storage Ltd. As I am in contact with many people moving between France and UK and back again - I am spreading the word. DON't USE SIMPSONS.

Meanwhile a lot of Christmas items, a lot of gardening equipment, step ladder and other boxed items of mine have clearly found other homes - despite, once, all being in one place - and under the "care" (loose term) of the disastrous Simpsons!!

I find it extraordinary that I watched all my items being loaded into crates, but not everything has arrived - how hard is it to have one load and manage to split it so badly.

Even this ridiculous review doesn't cover all the towns or counties - so I have had to put the nearest in - Guildford to Bordeaux. For the sake of clarity it was Camberley to Les Alleuds, France.

Worst Experience Ever!

For the sake of your sanity and your wallet, do not use this company! They lie, they fob you off, they are rude and aggressive when you try to get help, they take your money and do not send your items!
It took over 6 months to receive our furniture in the Canaries, the items eventually arrived but could not be released because Simpson´s had not paid the sea carrier or destination agent,, our furniture sat on the docks for 5 weeks!
Every phone call to them is a promise that the correct person will call you back! They never do! The managing Director Melanie Simpson does not respond to your calls or emails. We received an email to say they were going into liquidation, but according to Companies House they are still trading?
We paid 2,700 pounds upfront to Simpsons and an additional 2,600 euros to the agents here to get our items!! If they haven´t already gone bust, they deserve to! Worst experience ever!

Simpsons Removals and Storage.

Very helpful pre-sales team who won the contract through excellent communication and customer support before the move. Movers themselves were extremely quick and efficient, seemed to take great care to look after and be respectful of personal belongings. Every box was labelled clearly with contents which was really helpful later on. On their suggestion, it's worth separating all essentials beforehand into a 'not to pack' area if belongings are going into storage as there is not always time on the day. Storage charges are very competitive. Delivery to a new house a few of months later was again extremely well managed with lots of supportive back-up contact. A nice touch: the same moving team leader (Paul - totally amazing superman!) was allocated which was really helpful as he actually remembered our belongings and this speeded up the move and furniture distribution. He also re-assembled our beds and 9 huge storage cratefuls were still moved in by early afternoon! Simpsons also refunded part month storage costs promptly. We would recommend Simpsons highly. We have moved fairly often and this is by far the best quality and most hassle-free and worry-free service we have ever had. A definite top star rating!

The team of two arrived promptly and within an hour we were all packed up and ready to go. They were both polite and cheery throughout the whole move and treated my possessions with respect.
As there was no chain it was a fairly quick process. They were both efficient and courteous and quick! Would definitely recommend as my last move was fairly disastrous ( not with Simpsons).

Worst moving company ever.

When I arranged my move they told me that I would receive my belongings definitely within 4 weeks, but it lasted 2 months. Co-workers were clumsy and bumped with my furniture against the wall causing damage. Most pieces of furniture had scratches on them. All my belongings were full of dust, while I cleaned it all before pick up. Making reclaims was impossible because I could not prove on what date I had bought my belongings. Overall, it was a horrible experience. I should have read a review website.

Long-distance move from Dundee, Angus to Belfast, County Antrim

Terrible.

I booked a removal from Scotland to Northern Ireland and was given a guide delivery estimate of 7 to 21 days.

It took 58 days, so more two and a half times their estimate.

While this in itself was bad enough they also failed to keep me informed about this situation, providing neither reasons for the delay nor updated estimates, which is in violation of their own T&Cs.

In fact, they never even told me there was a delay.

I have emailed them countless times, including official complaints which were not acknowledged. All I got as response were half hearted non-apologies ("we're dorry you're not happy"). The pressing questions of where my stuff was, why it was delayed and when it would arrive were ignored.

When the items finally arrived they gave me all but three days notice despite originally promising me at least five.

Overall this experience has been very stressful and time consuming and if I could give 0 stars I would.

My advise is to avoid them at all costs.

Long-distance move from Dartford, Kent to Eastbourne, East Sussex

Kent to East Sussex.

Removal van arrived promptly at 7:30 and in a whirlwind we were loaded. They left for the new house 40 miles away at 10:00 and arrived about 11:30, obviously keen to finish early. We had to spend an hour clearing the old house and collecting the last special items. We arrived around 13:00. Of course it seems to take time getting the funds transferred up the chain so our house was not released until 13:45. I had the feeling the removal team were frustrated at the delay but they must be aware of this. Truck emptied in another whirlwind of activity. Again mostly ok but several boxes ended up in completely the wrong place in spite of us labelling clearly on the supplied boxes. Only minor breakages but overall good. They just need to acknowledge that the Conveyancing system is not designed for early finishes; even if they think it should.

Our move - ruined.

My family moved to Canada from the UK this summer. Our belongings were collected in June and almost three months later are still in the UK.

They originally gave me an estimate of 6-12 weeks for completion. Had they been more realistic (I find it very difficult to believe that they have such a skewed grasp of their own operation) then I would have gone elsewhere.

Communication is cursory. They do respond to emails but only with platitudes (just one more week . . . ) and there was a marked change in posture from the moment we paid them. When we arrived in Canada, they wrote telling us that they didn't know when they would be able to send our belongings, but for an extra £1700 they could send it straight away. We felt as if we were being held to ransom.

There was a mistake made with our invoice, but this was an honest one.

My wife is a piano teacher. Her piano - and our livelihood - is stuck in the UK. We have now had to rent one at considerable cost, to buy a complete winter wardrobe, and replace our son's toys and books.

I don't think they are crooks, but they seem mercenary and defensive - once we paid, they stopped caring. I would advise extreme caution and to get EVERYTHING in writing. I wonder how many extra weeks this review will cost me. I'll keep posting updates here and on other review sites.

At Any Cost Avoid!

If you have the chance to see this blog before going with Simpsons Removal Company - think again and do not go with them. I have never found myself in such a situation to even consider writing a review but this company is not what they claim to be. In all fairness they were always really kind, helpful and SEEMED professional. That was after I discovered that they withheld quite important information to the point where I actually feel devceived. They made me pay the downpayment (50% - ca. £1000) because the moving truck already arrived less than a week later. Then send me through the documents detailing that I need to accomodate 7tn truck at both destinations. I had to sign up to it because I had already paid the downpayment. No one had let me known before hand (which would have been the important bit). Then they hassled with me over insurance as they told us that each box was insured with £40 and in addition we could insure whatever we wanted. We got a quote for that in writing. Afterwards I was told that I was "discriminating" against the insurance company - I.e. not insuring enough stuff. When I called out to them politely that it seems that they had not checked what we wanted insured with the company first, still quoted us and this was not my fault that they did not know the minimum levels of insurance for their own company they dropped it - but that was a good 5-6 emails of hassling. Then the guys came and picked up the stuff. The movers on the day asked me for a feedback form when I pointed out that I had not actually heard about most of the things on the feedback form ("Have you been informed of such and such in advance") they said - "yeah the office..". Ah great so even the movers know that office is not doing a proper job. Afterwards I get an email telling me that more space was used than actually quoted for - I had to pay an additional £400. The truck that arrived was empty it could have been pointed out to me at the time and at least I had the choice of either taking stuff off the truck or paying but just receiving an email "Surprise - please pay" I do not think is a very ethical approach whatsoever. The day after the movers came I had to pay the rest of the money (another ca. £1000 - that is in addition to the £400!) even though my goods had not arrived in Germany yet. We then had paid for a Premium Service, which we were told meant that all the other deliveries were being arranged around ours and we would get our goods on a Saturday. They then changed that to Friday ("we never confirmed Saturday"). On top of it we then were unable to arrange for the truck to deliver in Germany so it had to go to a different moving company that we are now paying. They were meant to deliver today (as per the Premium Service that cost us £500) - the goods were dropped off yesterday. In between all these issues you cannot believe how many conversations and how much hassle we had to put up with constant back and forth writing of emails to get what we wanted, needed and paid for and that is simply not what you want from your moving company (given that moving is stressful at the best of times and you really do not need this additional hassle). Their one argument is that they are governed by the BAR, however I contacted the BAR about this unethical behaviour and their response mainly was I should try and sort it with the company itself first. Now I have worked in the Financial Services industry and I know if someone contacted the FCA (to which Simpsons referred the BAR to) this would have been taken a whole lot more serious. We did complain to the company so many times about the lack of service and the withhold of the IMPORTANT information to make moving decisions and they have always come back in a professional and kind tone which was a voluminous amount of text detailing and explaining but essentially not helping us at the end of the day. I spent so much money for a service that does not even deserve the word service and I need to spend more now for the moving company in Germany. Waste of money and time (not to mention a "premium service" that they did not stick to as per contract). I have to say that I was surprised to see the company respond to so many claims here on the review site - perhaps the time would be better invested into upskilling employees to not just ACT professional but also BE professional - I.e. giving your clients all the necessary information to make an informed decision before you take their money.

Moving.

Right from the very first phone call to Sue Bacon to get a quote we were impressed. Both Sue Bacon and Sophie dealt with our move in a fast and efficient way. They offered good advice right along the way and were extremely helpful. The guys moving our furniture were amazing and extremely helpful, especially Steve and Jay. It was not an easy move, but Steve had already moved our furniture 4 years before when we moved in. He moved us out of our home this time and then into the new home. Nothing was too much trouble. They maintained a great sense of humour during quite a difficult move. We were very impressed and would highly recommend to anyone else using them. The 5 star rating is given because of the quality of the staff we encountered. Please pass on our grateful thanks to all staff mentioned.

Simpsons removal from Sheffield to Cyprus.

Be very careful if you consider using Simpsons for your removals as they are at best unprofessional and at worst dishonest. The TPO will not help as they seem to be in league with Simpsons
In October 16 we were looking for a company to move our household goods from Sheffield to Cyprus. We chose Simpsons from the information told us by the customer service staff, this information was found to be blatant lies used to get our contract. We were told it would take a maximum of 12 weeks but it actually took 22/23 weeks, we were told the quote was door to door with no added extras, we had to pay wharfage charges to get our goods out of Limassol port. We packed our own boxes, gave systems the exact sizes, marked every box with the required information and prepared the manifest list. Because we did all this our quote was £1033 instead of the original £1094, We paid the higher amount and then spent over 2 months with many e-mails to receive this overpayment back.
When we complained to Simpsons they just reverted back to their t & cs and not honored the info told us by their lying staff.
We volunteered to pay for lie detector tests for the staff in question but never got a response from Simpsons. After the collection of our goods at the beginning of October the customer service was abysmal and always had to be initiated by ourselves. We registered a complaint, the outcome just stated that the staff didn't lie and again talked about t & cs, We again offered to pay for lie detection tests but with no response.
We took the complaint to the TPO who sided with Simpsons and did a very poor review, we asked the TPO to get Simpsons to carry out a lie detection test but they would not, they didn't even look at Simpsons on line reviews even though these showed that numerous complaints had been made for the same reasons with identical problems.
Do not believe a word that Simpsons staff tell you, they will lie and then deny it. The TPO will not bother too much to look into it and will side with Simpsons. We think its the do not bite the hand that feeds you concept.
Use Simpsons at your peril, we would never consider them again as there are a lot of honest companies out there that will do a good job, why take the risk.

Chesterfield to Whitley Bay.

Overall this was a very smooth move for us. The move was planned over two days, loading on day one and delivery on day two.
The initial costing (competitive) and arrangements were very capably handled by Sue and advice freely given.
The three man loading team were very friendly and efficient and we were able to depart on time for our destination.
Two of the original loading team met us as arranged at the property the following day. Our possessions were unloaded and placed where we directed. The guys couldn't have been more helpful, especially when one or two unexpected property issues were encountered.
None of our items were lost or damaged, so all good on that score.
Thanks to all at Simpsons for making the move as smooth as could have been hoped for. Recommended.

You have to understand the removal industry to write reviews.

Hi I'm Marcues I used Simpsons Removals last year to ship my effects to Dubai. I was dealt with by Max Oughera who I must say was very professional and had an excellent telephone manner and very polite (I would recommend you as to speak with him if your looking for removal quotes).

Max asked if I had an idea in termsof my overall volume and I discussed with him the items I was looking to ship, he then estimated the volume to be 8 cubic meters and then went on to ask what service I was looking for. I wanted the quickest option as I had time constraints so Max advised that the quickest option was not the most cost effective.

The most cost effective method of shipping your goods overseas is in fact in a shared/groupage container and NOT as LCL as I have now researched and told by Max very clearly.

I've read reviews and see that people get irrate when they're told a transit time and write reviews when their goods are not delivered on time (at least to their knowledge) but you have to understand that an ETA is only an estimated time of arrival and not EXACT time of arrival and also if your goods are being shipped as groupage then you have to wait until that particular container is full in order for the company to ship it.

If you want an express service then be prepared to pay for it and please understand that if your shipping to an international location then be prepared to wait.

My overall expreince with Simpsons Removals was excellent. I understand how long a ship will take to arrive in Jebel Ali and also appreciate how business works and also realistic about time frames.

If you're looking to move overseas I would highly recommend Simpsons Removals for your service, aslo Danny the driver who cam to collect was fantastic.

Appalling packing service.

We used Simpsons to move from London to Tokyo. The packing was very fast, but when the goods arrived in Japan, we realised why: the packing was done to a highly unprofessional level. A heavy cast-iron teapot has been put on top of wine glasses (which were all broken afterwards), paintings were we specifically said they were valuable have been packed without protection with umbrellas, all our books had been thrown in boxes and were slightly damaged with folds and earmarks (which was just totally unnecessary given how easy books are to pack), valuable furniture has all been damaged. We ordered and paid for a marble table top to be crated, which never happened. To add insult to injury, Simpsons refused to compensate us for any damage and never apologised. After a long process, they refunded us the crating service. We also got some compensation from the insurance, for which we paid ourselves. Simpsons however never apologised and although it is in their terms and conditions that they would compensate for broken items up till 40 pounds a box, they refused to compensate us by claiming the following: (1) we had to proof their negligence. Although we provided pictures and a statement from the local agent who witnessed the negligence, they required further proof. (2) they argued that all broken items fit in one box (although they were packed in different boxes) and therefore the maximum compensation would be 40 pounds.

Don't use Simpson.

It started off bad when they took a 4 inch chunk out of a wall when removing my furniture. They tried to hide the damage and pretend it never happened. After waiting two weeks longer than the max time of their estimate, my delivery finally arrived. I had multiple items missing and damaged, and Simpson accepted zero responsibility for anything. I even sent them pictures of the damage they caused, and they used jargon and circular logic to try and explain why it wasn't their fault. They are pathetic.

Service cost: £4000
