Britannia Beckwith of Brighton removals

Moving house is said to be one of the most stressful things that one can do in life, so it makes sense to do some research, speak to different people and decide on the removals firm that is the best fit for you.

A little bit of planning goes a long way.

So I did my research and planning and invited three removals firms to quote, with one of them being Britannia Beckwith. I’ve seen their trucks on the road before and they’re an established firm so must be doing something right.

Their reviews are excellent as well.

I spoke with the office staff, Emily M and Tina T, throughout and Louise F popped round to survey what the contents of 19-years of family home looked like.

Louise’s quote wasn’t the lowest. And nor was it the highest. But it was detailed, professional and clear. And I got a good feeling that this was the company I could do business with.

I now read that they’re the longest established removals firm in East Sussex and are family owned and run. This probably makes their customer service far superior than a faceless, big, national firm.

We elected to do our own packing and we were somewhat successful but we did need more boxes on the day. I was happy to pay a little extra for Britannia Beckwith to supply some additional boxes and some manpower to help pack them.

In retrospect, I would’ve paid for them to pack everything for us as they’re far more efficient at it than I am and I could’ve saved myself a lot of time. For the peace of mind it brings, for me that money would’ve been well spent at the outset.

The chaps that moved my house on the day were Dave B, who turned up early and was extremely polite and helpful.

Dave was followed by Mark C, Ben P, Lee B and Taff who turned up in a big truck and a big van. All of these chaps were polite and helpful and extremely efficient at their jobs. They even assisted with my dismantling of an Asgard steel bike store, which made my task a whole lot easier.

Of course, not all house moves go smoothly and, due to the people at the bottom of the chain not starting off the transaction process until almost midday, I did not get confirmation of completion on my sale until 1640h. At 1700h I collected the key from the estate agent and I was with the BritBeck guys at 1725h.

They’d been waiting all afternoon for the go ahead and all, very kindly, agreed to stay on to ensure the completion of my move. Especially kind as it was Ben’s wife’s birthday. (Thank you, Ben, and sorry!)

On reflection, I’m pleased that I chose this firm to move my house contents. Everyone to whom I’ve spoken has been friendly and helpful, especially in the light of the delays caused to us by others.

I don’t write reviews for the sake of it. I only tend to write them if I can give five stars and can wholeheartedly recommend them to you.

In this case I do recommend BritBeck and recommend you consider them for your house move.

Move size: 4 Bedroom Home Service cost: £2000

We paid over £2 k for this firm to move us 0.5 miles in West Sussex , we moved with our folks into a larger house with annexe , firstly each team hadn’t communicated with each other so neither knew they were meeting at one house after ! A key was snapped in our lock , and they hid it from us ! Damaged my mums mattress , terracotta garden cat broken , scratched an oak unit , my sofa bed was filthy as not covered up as promised ! No wardrobe boxes either as promised when given a quote so our clothes were thrown in boxes , folded , screwed up etc ! They harped in about being members of the BAR and how they take care of your items by covering them etc ! What a load of broken promises !! For a lot of ££££ !! And then when you complain they fob you off ! Ignore your calls / emails like you don’t matter ! Cameron Ballard promised to look into and sort out the issues ! 5 weeks on and no change ! They didn’t even bother to come and pick up the boxes they were supposed to after we moved as avoiding any contact at all ! Quick enough to take our £££ ! Avoid at all costs !!

Move size: 4+ Bedroom Home Service cost: $2150

The move was made even more stressful by a very unprofesional office manager called Simon, who harasses, threatens and bullies you over the phone on moving day as soon as the lunchtime deadline passes, to pay extra money to him over the phone or he threatens to send your goods off on the lorry without being delivered. Be warned, if your completion time is beyond the 12 o'clock limit, this company want extra money for their men to finish the move. Even when you offer to come to the office the following week to pay them, he refuses and demands your bank details over the telephone, which I do not give to anyone. He has placed the company in the most unprofessional manner possible. The removal men accidentally broke and damaged furniture, the estimator took photos, and still they have not contacted 17 days later. The removal men were nice, and obliging but the management is appauling, with manners to match. My recommendation, never use them, they do not deserve your trade. Their quote was not cheap, but I thought I would be receiving a professional service. I did not, far from it. They trade on belonging to a large franchise but do not have the professionalism to match the name. The company were previously Beckwiths of Brighton, before they joined Britannia. .

Service cost: £1000

Brittania stepped in when our original mover let us down. The price was fair and they arranged for a five-man team to make sure the move could be done in a day. The team was great - turned up on time, were relaxed, kind and very reassuring.They worked well together and worked hard-they stayed until the job was done properly. Wld use them again. Suggest you make sure to ask that they bring enough covers for the carpets or put on shoe covers. And if you have a piano, that they cover it properly.

Move size: 3 Bedroom Home Service cost: £1450

When Cameron told me our pack and move would require 3 days and 2 lorries I was surprised, surely we don't have that much stuff! How wrong was i, the pack and move took 3 long days with 6 people a day, 2 lorries and 1 and a half Luton vans. Everything was packed, and delivered in one piece and we have found everything too! The staff were excellent, very polite and courteous and never moaning about the endless stream of stuff. We can even still remember their names after a month. Taff, Lee, Chris, Marshall, Geoff.. thank you guys, you made my wife and small children happy which is ne mean feat. I don't want to move again for a long time but if I did I would use this team every time. Thank you.

We had a few quotes and decided to go with Britannia Beckwith - their quote was competitive and Louise was excellent from the start - especially when we had to delay our original moving date by a week, her calm response certainly helped a stressful situation. We moved over 4 days with a packing service. The foreman, David, was very friendly and professional and his team worked efficiently (their respect for him was evident). They were all friendly and easy to have around. Louise worked well with our ‘demands’. They all worked speedily and efficiently. Nothing broken! Overall, their professionalism made for an ‘enjoyable’ move. A big thanks too to Dennis, Liam, Rob, Jay and Michael. I have recommended them to my son who is also moving soon from Surrey.

Moving from East Sussex to Devon was never going to be straight forward but the team at Britannia Beckwith were just excellent. From the initial quote provided by Zoe, to fixing dates and picking up boxes with Tina they were so supportive and nothing was too much trouble. We had to go into storage at short notice for a month and Tina arranged everything perfectly. The removal team of Chris, Mark and Ben sorted out the moving our belongings and genuinely took the stress out of the day. I would happily recommend team at Britannia for any move, short or long.

I've never employed a removal firm before and so wasn't sure what to expect. But from the moment I called for a quote to me waving goodbye to the team from my new doorstep, Britannia Beckwith was faultless. And all during a pandemic! The back office team were really great with their communications - timely, clear and helpful. They happily answered all my questions - no matter how small - and adapted the quote when I moved a few things myself.

One the day, the team arrived bright and breezy. We spent all of five minutes walking through the property to explain what was needed and the best decision I made was for the team to pack my kitchen for me - I highly recommend that as a stress busting tool! The team worked really hard moving everything down from the 6th floor and were very efficient indeed. Just getting on with the job and putting very helpful labels on any boxes they packed for me.

I have no hesitation in recommending Britannia Beckwith and will definitely use them again next time.

Move size: 2 Bedroom Home Service cost: £950

The move was the second part of a move done by the same company to storage about 15 months ago. The first part was perfect. The second part also the same, until one item was discovered to be missing. It had a value slightly in excess of £100, and I completed the insurance claim - the whole consignment was valued at £8,000 for insurance purposes. That claim has been dismissed as the insurer spoke to the removal team who claimed the item "...was not sighted."

So folks. Use the company by all means. Just don't bother with the insurance which refuses to pay out. The customer definitely does NOT come first.

Since this, Beckwith intervened, and the insurers paid out my claim. So it is 5 stars to Beckwith and 1 star to the insurers.

We used Britannia Beckwith for our move from East Sussex to Mid Sussex. Although our move date changed a couple of times the removal firm were able to accommodate our requirements. The employees on the day before (pre-packing) and on the day of the move were all excellent. They were efficient, courteous and careful all day. Given that a couple of weeks later we are still unpacking boxes we are so glad we chose a company to help with our move and feel Britannia Beckwith were excellent value for money. I would definitely recommend them to anyone considering a house move.

Having used this company a few years ago and finding them excellent I decided to use them again. The service this time was extremely poor, the attitude of the site manager was rude, dismissive and everything was a problem. They didn't deliver on the service paid for, beds were not dismantled and reassembled as paid for, garden furniture was not moved as paid for as they decided on the day they didn't have room so we had to do it ourselves. There was pressure to sign the documentation (they waited until my husband had left to collect some nuts and bolts for the beds that they had not deconstructed properly at the old property) despite being dissatisfied by the service. I complained to the management but to date I have not had any response. Items were not placed in the correct rooms and many chips to items on inspection after. Most of the time I felt we were an imposition when they moved us from West Sussex to East Sussex despite having paid a significant sum for their service. Avoid, this company charges high and delivers low, a real shame as they used to be great.

We used Britannia Beckwith for our recent move. We had a lot of stuff - as one does with two kids and a dog - including swing set, trampoline and mid sleeper beds that all needed to be dismantled and reassembled at the other end. The guys worked tirelessly with humour and courtesy from start to finish. Nothing was too much trouble (not even my wife who kept changing her mind as to where our furniture should go). I cannot fault Dave and his team who moved us and am grateful to them for the care and effort they put in to make our move that little bit less stressful! I would highly recommend Britannia Beckwith.
