Schumacher Cargo Logistics

This company is the classic case of bait and switch. They tell you what you want to hear to earn your business and then hold your stuff hostage. I was told my car would take 8 weeks to ship from US to Europe. I was advised that if there was a port congestion to allow a 9th and potential 10th week for a buffer. Okay cool!

WRONG! They sat on my car for 11 weeks at origin waiting to consolidate it and as I'm writing this review, my car still has not shipped as of today. When I called for a refund and to cancel, the passive aggressive service rep named Christian had the nerve to tell me that I would need to pay their cancellation fee and never even said sorry or apologized in any way.

Use my experience as a warning. Don't take the bait. Leave it for other oblivious fish.

Service cost: $2900

You are better off financially starting from scratch as opposed to using this shipping company. They will give you a decent (but pricy) quote, tell you all your items will fit in a specific container (the movers will say so, too), then everything seems great until your items arrive in California where all of a sudden the chaos begins. You will not hear anything from the company for quite some time until they need money- no status updates, nothing. Out of nowhere you will get a storage fee for thousands of dollars, and the second you pay it, magically a container is available for Shipment and that all of your items suddenly will not fit in the container and that they need to put it in an even BIGGER container for an extra 1,000 dollars. Once you pay that, a random person, (probably the 5th person you've had contact with), will give you an ETA and tell you your stuff has been loaded and it's on its way. WELL guess what, its not. Then someone else will contact you asking if you sent your car title that you sent to them three months ago (and was told they received), followed by a third storage fee and a new 50-day delay ETA even though you were just told everything was already shipped and sent off. Then, again, you will be bombarded with three new contacts asking the same questions about your missing car title that they misplaced, followed by them NEVER answering your questions. Your high quote and payment of 15,000 becomes 16,600, then 19,000, then 21,000, and then 23,000. And every time they contact you they want more and more money. They are the absolute most disgusting moving company on the planet, and are trying to monopolise everything by telling you how cheap it will be originally but absolutely never making any attempts to help families relocate.

If you need to move anywhere, start over or find another company because this company is absolute garbage. The disorganisation is unbelievable. Oh, and pack your own stuff in LARGE boxes because they charge per box but won't tell you that- the movers tell you that last minute after you were told by some slimy sales executive not to pack anymore because the movers will do it.

Waste of an unbelievable amount of money, money that we needed for our family and babies. The company preys on families and it is disgusting.

I had previously read a good review of Schumarcher and when I spoke to the agent Mark Neville he seemed really nice and helpful. Alas, it has been six months since I shipped my stuff (20 boxes only) and it should have taken three. The invoice is over double what I was actually quoted for the same amount of stuff, additional charges that were not my fault and now it's been impossible to actually get a hold of them to resolve! Don't add this stress to your list when you're already dealing with a stressful international move.

My experience with Schumacher Cargo is pretty much the same as expressed by most of reviewers here. Have nothing new to add besides re-emphasising that this company must be avoided at all means.

I was underquoted by 25%, they trick you into giving accurate quote once your stuff is in their possession at warehouse. 10% of our cargo were lost or stolen and didn't make it to the final destination.

As later learned from their release agent in Europe approximately 7 out of 10 Schumacher Cargo clients experience cargo loss or damage and overall working with these people is a total shit show.

Move size: 2 Bedroom Home Service cost: $5000

This was a move from Australia to the USA and the Australian company used Schumacher for the US delivery segment. The biggest concern we’ve had is that Schumacher added many charges without consent or explanation (when asked, they refused to respond) and then withheld our final container until we paid their bogus charges. Highly unethical and fraudulent in our view. I would reinforce what others have stated - this is a highly unprofessional company that engages in very questionable practices. In over a dozen moves (including 4 international ones), I must say that this company has been the worst with misrepresentation and manipulation.

Avoid them if at all possible.

Move size: 4+ Bedroom Home Service cost: $60000

We moved our household possessions from San Francisco to Sydney Australia in 2021. We had a 40ft container and paid around $16K. Due to the logistics issues it ended up taking 6 months, but that wasn't the issue. When we finally received our things there was a lot of damage to valuable furniture, and even a lounge chair lost completely. Schumacher were uninterested in trying to locate the lost chair and then the insurance short changed us on the payment for the damage and lost chair. You just pay attention to the inventory and also make a careful list of all boxes that are sent. We still suspect that some boxes never made it and will not know for sure until we completely unpack. Very disappointed in the very poor level of care and packing of our possessions. Schumacher were not the cheapest, so I would definitely not recommend them.

Move size: 3 Bedroom Home Service cost: $14500

Moved Household (24 boxes) from Texas to Central Europe. Was quoted $2100 two weeks before move. Actually had 5 movers I was trying to deceive on and spoke with Agents from Schumacher on the phone and they made every promise for delivery time, quality, service and so on. After settling and confirming them, three days before the scheduled move I was contacted and told that the price would be $3700 an additional $1600, it was too late to schedule another mover or cancel.

The same move from Germany to Texas with actually more boxes and weight costed me $1400 five years before.

BEWARE the company uses scamming tactics and changes prices to your disadvantage, only hassles and problems!!!

Move size: 1 Bedroom Flat Service cost: $3700

I can only confirm what so many others here have said:

1) Quoted costs vs actual costs will not line up. In my case what I ended up paying was more than double what I was quoted.

2) What was sold as an "all inclusive" total price ended up not "all inclusive" and I had to pay additional fees/charges for the shipment on the back end of the trip.

3) While the staff at Schumacher were very responsive when it came to their paperwork and getting paid, they were consistently unable to provide clear communication on the timings of my actual sea freight shipment.

4) The total time to complete the move was abysmal. What was sold as a 12 week or better door to door move ended up taking over 10 months!!! To be clear, I had submitted all paperwork up front and in time with their requirements and the move was from the USA to the UK so not unusual.

Just confirming what most people wrote here about the poor service offered by this company. We moved from Singapore and were assigned Schumacher as the US based mover. This means that the moving company we engaged with, APAC Relocation, deflected all responsibilities for US operations.

Customer service at Schumacher is terrible. I had to keep chasing them for every piece of information and sometimes the moving manager refused to provide any update!

To confirm what other people mentioned:

1) Final costs vs actual cost did not match. we paid 500 USD more out of debatable expenses.

2) Delivery time information completely unreliable.

3) Very fast at asking for payments but incredibly slow at providing information if any.

Do not choose this company for any kind of business or make sure it is not assigned to you from another operator.

Will never use this company again, would not recommend them and anyone shipping should check carefully that this company is not your shippers agents. I have shipped from Europe via another shipper to discover this company was handling my goods on USA soil. But they refuse to deliver goods unless I pay thousands of extra $'s in hidden fees.  The staff have lied, concocted emails to make it look like they have previously invoiced us. when it comes right down to it, it's extortion in its ugliest form!  I am quite evidently not the first to experience this from them! and will not be the last, but people need to know this stuff, read and take advise on all contracts even if you don't have the time or the knowledge, it could save you thousands! Use companies that have a good all round review! Not like this company, stay well away from them.

I hired this company to move my car and 2 crates of household because of moving back from USA to Germany. First I have to say I am very glad I received the car. the crates are still on the way.
My recommendation to anyone doing business with them: do agree upfront on installments. Never pay upfront! Have them commit on a delivery date! once they have your money, communication goes down to 0! I felt during the transport of my car from the day they picked it up helpless. they had the car, they had the car title and nobody can really tell you when the car will really be shipped. what they don't tell you on the homepage is that when you transport your car by container, they will hold your car on a parking lot until they have another customer with a car to fill the container. Means your car will be on an exterior parking lot until they have another car to be sent from the seaport to the exact same Destination as yours. so my car was picked up 6/19 and was not loaded on a ship until 6-7weeks later! When calling them and asking for ETA they will tell you over weeks still waiting for another car to fill the container. Same happned by the way with my other goods packed in crates. today 9/2/2017 I only know they arrived in Hamburg (they picked them up in USA on 6/19).. again here nobody is telling you it might happen that you will have to wait until they fill a full container.. by the way: once my goods arrived at the seaport in Germany, Schumacher did not feel anymore responsible and I had to send all necessary documentation again to their subcontractor which really did an awesome job in terms of service, communication, etc. Be also aware that custom inspection cost were charged without proof they really happened and they clearly tell you if you don't pay - you wont get the car.. I absolutely helpless once they picked up the car - at the end I am happy I have my car back and I don't even bother to claim the little damage caused by the transport. they are not professional! stay away from them! Do not assume your goods will be delivered soon if you are not filling a full container!
