{"id":9957,"date":"2020-10-13T16:21:05","date_gmt":"2020-10-13T16:21:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.removalreviews.co.uk\/move\/?p=9957"},"modified":"2023-10-16T10:36:38","modified_gmt":"2023-10-16T10:36:38","slug":"home-moving-industry-trends-2020-quality-of-life-trumps-city-life","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.removalreviews.co.uk\/move\/home-moving-industry-trends-2020-quality-of-life-trumps-city-life\/","title":{"rendered":"Home Moving Industry Trends 2020 \u2013 Quality of Life Trumps City Life"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>www.removalreviews.co.uk, part of World Media Group, one of the most trusted removal company review websites in the UK, is reporting the highest ever recorded number of visitors to its website, with organic search up a massive <strong>88.9%<\/strong> on this time last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is some interesting data that they have released about where people are moving, who is moving, and what they have learned about the home moving market in 2020 so far.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>People are leaving the cities for bigger homes and a better quality of life in large numbers<\/li><li><strong>20%<\/strong> of people looking for a quote for their home move are in London<\/li><li>The number of 18-24-year-olds moving home has increased by nearly <strong>10%<\/strong> compared with 2019<\/li><li>Smaller home moves increase by <strong>8%<\/strong> whilst 4 bedroom size home moves decrease by <strong>8%<\/strong><\/li><li>Ireland tops the list as the most popular place to emigrate to with a <strong>45%<\/strong> increase in people requesting removal company quotes to move them there<\/li><li>Removal companies are expanding their areas of operation in response to customer need<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The beginning of 2020 saw the continued growth of people looking to move home, with a strong year ahead forecast by most in the removal industry, but no one could have foreseen what was about to happen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Covid-19 put the brakes on the housing market and people found themselves in lockdown, whether in the UK or overseas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not surprisingly, the lockdown months of March and April saw a decline in people seeking the services of Removal Companies, by up to <strong>64%<\/strong> compared with the same time the previous year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ivelin Donchev from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.removalreviews.co.uk\/movers\/best-london-removals-ltd-327\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Best London Removals<\/a> told us how the lockdown affected his company \u201cDuring the lockdown we had only 1-2 teams operating. We were mostly moving out customers who were in lockdown abroad, collecting their items and delivering them to a storage unit so that they could end their tenancy and not pay expensive rent here in London\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>June saw people start to contemplate relocating, and searches for information about moving home soared. But people were still unsure as to what the future held, and as Ivelin says \u201cThe end of lockdown saw many people postponing or canceling their home move\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On July 10<sup>th<\/sup>, the government announced the stamp duty tax holiday and RemovalReviews saw unprecedented traffic to their website, an increase of <strong>179.17%<\/strong> on the previous year for the traditionally busy month of July.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That trend continues as more and more people find the homes they want to buy and more home sales are completed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP\/\/\/yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-aspectratio=\"576\/336\" width=\"576\" height=\"336\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.removalreviews.co.uk\/move\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/10\/image.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9958 lazyload\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/www.removalreviews.co.uk\/move\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/10\/image.png 576w, https:\/\/www.removalreviews.co.uk\/move\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/10\/image-300x175.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 576px) 100vw, 576px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Where are People Moving From?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Between June 1st and the end of September 2020, the majority of moves were for people relocating away from the main cities of the UK to the suburbs and more rural locations, with a significant amount of interest in those looking to move overseas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>London currently has a very active housing market with over<strong> 20%<\/strong> of RemovalReview visitors looking for a removal company in London.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Przemyslaw Mierzejewski of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.removalreviews.co.uk\/movers\/giant-removals-339\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Giant Removals<\/a> in London told us \u201cSince the pandemic restrictions have been eased, and the stamp duty holiday announced, we have seen a huge increase in work in London. We run removal services all over the country and moves from London to Manchester have been incredibly busy recently. Around 60% of our moves are still within the M25 orbit of London, but a significant number, around 40%, are from people selling their property in London and moving out of the capital to places such as Reading, Basingstoke, Exeter, and Devon\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPeople moving out of London are moving to bigger homes (you can sell a 3 bed flat in Richmond for \u00a3700-\u00a3800k and buy a 4+ bed house in Basingstoke, just an hour away from central London by train, for \u00a3400-\u00a3500k)\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cCustomers within London are moving to the same type of property, but in better areas, or to bigger homes in the same postcode area. We are seeing very few people downsizing, as little as 5-10% of those moving home\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">International Home Moves \u2013 Ireland Tops the List<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Where are people choosing to move internationally in 2020?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ireland continues to be the most popular country to emigrate to, whilst Italy has seen a huge rise in people looking to relocate there with an increase of <strong>95.4%<\/strong> over 2019 figures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The USA remains one of the most popular international home moves but has seen a drop of 9.3% over 2019 figures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are the top 7 countries that people are moving to from the UK so far in 2020 with a % increase over 2019:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul 2020?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Research collected by RemovalReviews of people requesting quotes for a home move indicates that the 25-34 age range is the biggest demographic of movers this year, with the majority being female.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are the demographics of those looking to move home in 2020 vs 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Females requesting a home move quote in 2020 \u2013 52.30% vs 55% in 2019<\/li><li>Males requesting a home move quote in 2020 \u2013 47.70% vs 45% in 2019<\/li><li>The 25-34 age range accounts for the biggest proportion of home movers with 31.19% in 2020 vs 29.75% in 2019<\/li><li>The biggest rise in people looking to move home is in the 18-24 age bracket, which accounted for 14.75% of movers so far in 2020, and only 5.62% in -8.1%<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>More people are moving fewer items too, choosing to hire a removal company to move just a few key items of furniture with a year-on-year increase of <strong>9.3%<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Larger size home moves have decreased in 2020 with <strong>8.1% <\/strong>fewer people choosing to move.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What are Home Movers Searching for in 2020?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>With one of the most popular home moving blogs in the UK, RemovalReviews reports that in August 2020 there was an increase of <strong>48.43%<\/strong> in visitors to their home moving advice pages compared with August 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Traditionally September would herald the slowdown of the home moving market, the summer months being the peak time
