Damages - Removals Review

I used Relocate Removals after meeting Bernard and being convinced by his patter that they were a good company to go with. I had 2 large sofas to move from the second floor. I informed Bernard at our initial meeting that the arms would have to come off in order for the sofas to go down the stairs without causing any damage. On the day the movers decided not to take the arms off that the 2 seater sofa and ended up breaking a window on the landing whilst trying to get it down the stairs. However, they didn't seem to think that this was their fault and suggested that it wasn't a problem as the property was owned by the Council and they would pay for the window. Not the case as being a leaseholder I was responsible for repairing the window. I informed Relocate and was told to present them with a bill which I did. They then informed me that they would not be presenting it to their insurers as it didn't meet the criteria. They also damaged the walls of the stairwell, something which I will also have to pay for. But maybe it was a good thing they didn't remove the arms of the 2 seater sofa because in reassembling the 3 seater they damaged the arm. However, as I didn't notice this until days later it was too late to do anything about it (Relocate state you must inform them within 48 hours of any damage). Have to say, not impressed at all with the service and certainly would not recommend to anyone.
